The message is correct, I only get it if the plug has been partially yanked out of the laptop. I am using BIOS A11 I believe.

I was trying to point out how the message has changed from 90w to 65w with the latest BIOS and DCP updates. The specs of my E6400 are in my signature, P8400, Intel graphics, and LED display.

I did the test with BIOS A06
I have the Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M GPU. My current BIOS is A09. I was not aware of the A11 BIOS release (did I also miss A10?!).

you REALLY ought to update your bios, there have been a number of very important updates (although i dont know if A11 is worth it, i stayed at A10).

did you get a dump file? rather than abandon the drivers, you should verify that it was actually the graphics driver failing, and you may be able to pinpoint which actual part of the driver package failed if that is actually what failed.

and yeah, you missed a10 :p, plus a11 has been out since like dec 20.

    DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
    error code 0x0000009f

My system is still fine after removing the drivers. I was crashing or having video problems when the laptop was booting up or waking from sleep. I do not use hibernate.

I am a business user and not a gamer, losing my work to BSOD is unacceptable.

I have BIOS A11 if it matters.

Hi, just registered to post about my new e6400. Got it yesterday, and so far I really like it, except for the touchpad surface.

Anyway, I got rid of the Windows partition asap and tried out Arch Linux on it.

Sound: Not sure how to get this to work with ALSA. May have to investigate more.

Network: Make sure you use the latest kernel to get support for the wired ethernet. My laptop has the Dell 1510 (broadcom 43xx) wireless card which will work with the recent hybrid broadcom linux drivers.

Video: Installed nvidia-177xx and they seem to work, but performance doesn't seem good. glxgears, for example, only shows 1000fps, whereas others are getting ridiculous values in the 10,000fps range.

Touchpad/Pointing stick: Haven't really messed with the settings, but they work okay out of the box.

Power Management: Using PowerTop it reports about 14w consumption while idle, which seems high. I have cpufrequtils installed and it does clock down to 800mhz.

My laptop shipped with A09 BIOS. What is fixed in A11? Also, is there a cable that uses 2 prongs with no ground? I received two power cables in the box, but they are both 3 prongs, just different length. Is there a different power brick to use the ports on an airplane?

Thanks, this thread has been full of great suggestions and tips!

by all means keep the dell ones if you dont need graphics improvement. When I asked if there is a dump file, I mean an actual file, not a BSOD code. You can see the actual driver that caused it if you diagnose the dmp file. Please let me know if you need help determining this.

there IS an A10 bios, I am using it (although I am using an e6500, but im 99% certain that A10 was released for both). They sometimes remove some of the older versions for reasons unknown/unstated. Normally you can still pick it up from the FTP site, but ill admit the A10 link shows 404. Either way, this happened with one of the earlier BIOS releases, and they took it off FTP as well. If you want the a10 bios (if it exists), im sure someone on this forum would have it.

Which CPU and GPU do you have? I would be looking for under 10W with P series CPU and Intel GPU. A combination of T series CPU and nvidia GPU might cost another 4W.

See below for the reported fix in A11, but there is usually more changes than they mention. The 65W auto/AC/air adaptor is 2-pin and very compact. It's here (under the phone).

If A10 was ever posted on the website, it couldn't be for more than a day. I only saw A09 and then A11 and I usually check daily for any updates. The notes for A11 say:
So maybe they found a problem with A10 and issued a quick fix.
