if you dont mind my asking, what do you need more than business sound for? (the laptop has sound that is plenty good for any business related purpose, and for the occasional youtube viewing). if you need better sound, just use speakers.

Any monitor worth buying today will have DVI input. Just get a DisplayPort to DVI adaptor from Dell, or other sources. Of course, if you have a DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor already, it may save you $15 to get a monitor with HDMI input.

    AVI?, you mean DVI!
DVI has no Audio... only video. So the adapter will drop the audio pins.

DP and HDMI are the only two display connectors that transport audio within it's cable on the market.

ok... i read an article online that is claiming display port is going to become the new standard and dvi is phasing out due to lower cost of display port.. not sure the truth to it but seems to make sense, wish i had the url to show you.

Veritas, I have to agree with the OP on this one.. the speakers are dissapointing. While I don't watch DVD movies or play games on my laptop, I do listen to a lot of 'books on CD' or digital audio books through itunes and the library for business development, and even the spoken word on this laptop's speakers is a joke! However, a small speaker set is a viable option and still allows you to preserve it's portability by a quick disconnect. I bought a small speaker set for 10 bucks and it does the job, it's just annoying b/c you think in 2009, regardless of a biz machine or not, you would suspect the speakers be at least usable for basic applications, but it is not (unless you are using it on your lap or at the desk)... you can't go more than 5 feet away and hear it clearly. (I.E. worthless for conferences or presentations). You will need external speakers for that.

    Hi

I have a strange problem. When using HWMonitor I can't get a fan speed reading. Have any of you experienced this? I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my machine.

    Yes.

@Barny, just use a different software that support this laptop.

hmm, that strikes me as odd. maybe there is a difference in sound quality between the e6500 and e6400, because i would definitely not make that claim about the e6500's speakers. they are admittedly pretty lame little tweeters, but no where near THAT bad (the 5 foot comment).
