YES, They are very helpful, you may even be able to find the solution via their chat support, ask them to remote into your computer and resolve the issue.

I've installed all the updates and it still is producing a constant on sound. It sounds a like a fan, but it's not the fan, it's the hard drive. In fact, when the fan comes on (which is rarely) the fan is about the same volume as the hard drive... any advice on making tweaks would be appreciated.

The wifi and BT disconnecting problem is quite similar to my problem:

Whenever I insert and try to read a smartcard (Estonian national ID card) - wifi is reconnected (a Proset popup of connecting to a network).

I don't get this problem when using a USB smartcard reader. Also the builtin smartcard reader 3 times out of 5 will give me an error (not being able to read or smth) while the USB reader works without problems so the problem cannot be the smartcard (I had it replaced in january because of my "lovely E6400" having problems with it). I have installed the latest security drivers and done all the USHupgrades.

yeah, it sounds like it could easily be a hardware problem. I would also consider trying to reseat the card -- with the back panel design, its simple enough to do. in the alternative, try completely uninstalling all drivers for the bluetooth, restart, and then reinstall.

FWIW, my 7200.3 320GB Seagate is absolutely silent.

Mine isn't, it's about as loud as the fan on its slow speed. But I was expecting that, I am planning to switch to a 160 GB+ SSD in the future, and put this one into some casing to act as an external HDD. Preferably through the eSATA port ;)

What make and model is your HDD... I'd like to look up its specs? You should be able to find this in Device Manager.

I have a Seagate Momentus 7200.3 250 GB, and I can tell you that it sounds like a fan that is always on. My other E6400 with a 5400 rpm is almost silent, and much, much quieter than the Seagate 7200.3. But even that is not absolutely silent.

Have you tried the trackpoint? It scrolls very nicely with the button underneath the space bar.
