You will feel GOOD after you throw away your SONY Z and buy a E6400. Check my status, I had Thinkpad for 5-6 years, and now I am a DELL user. E6400 has solid build quality, compare to HP, SONY. (but, thinkpad still has the best building quality and keyboard).
you will get a lot of function for a 14" size laptop, eSATA, DisplayPort, and you won't see these features from Thinkpad T400.
    Dislike( my own feeling):
    1. The keyboard is still good although I like Thinkpad keyboard more.
    2. The bluepoint does feel werid to me compared to redpoint on thinkpad.

So what accessories transfer from an e6400 to an e4200/e4300? I know the dock transfers, how about batteries?

well, ive deduced that webcam flicker is somehow dependent on the backlighting and lighting outside. maybe im some sort of freak of nature, but the lower the backlighting is (or lighting), the more it flickers. seems like theres also some sort of auto adjust for brightness thats annoying. anyone else have any input?

it definitely seems worse at 60hz than 50hz.

    Heuuu kazaam... that 100% normal.
It require more processing power to analyze darker images than brighter.
If you have a digital camera.. try taking a picture of the moon... they will be all blurry unless you decide to buy a high-end professional ~2000$Can digital camera. It this case the picture is blurry as your hands vibrate and the camera needs longer time to see image to activate the image sensor (else the picture will simply be black).

The web cam in the laptop is no high end Logitech webcam, it's just a low end one.. and to top things over.. from Creative. That is why I refuse to have it despite the sale guy giving it to me for free... it's quiet bad, as you saw.

I suggest to get a real web cam like the Logitech QuickCam 9000 Pro. Holds on the laptop, and also desktop LCD and CRT monitors at any thickness.

I'm having a new problem with my E4600 and its docking station. It was working fine until I recently installed software updated including the A12 BIOS. Now, when I place the computer back in the dock, the video doesn't switch over to the docking station. When I boot up, most of the time the external keyboard doesn't work...the external mouse does. I have to reboot (using the laptop keyboard which does work). Sometimes I can clear it by pulling and reconnecting the USB cable for the keyboard. This used to be so reliable, and now update have messed me up. Anyone else use a docking station and have any issues?

haha, i figured. it seems like the firmware is crap too though...i hate how it tries to change the brightness automatically.

my sister has a toshiba with a 1.3mp webcam and it doesnt do the same thing, seems much more solid than this one.

Hi everyone, I got a second hand Dell E6400 4 days ago and I'm very pleased so far.
    Specs: Intel P8400, 4GB Ram, Nvidia 160M, 7200RPM 160GB HD, Vista 64bit.

The only thing is the LED cover is snapped, its still clipped on but would like a replacement. Anyone have any idea of where I could get one?
(I've tried browsing on dells site and have failed to locate any replacement parts to the matter.)

    Thanks, Matt.

Use Dell Chat.. and explain your problem... you can send them links and they can view it. I did to once explain a problem (I took a Dell pictrue and circle where the problem was located).
The guys are really on your side... so don't worry.

Good question... I have no idea. These details comes directly from Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M info page. Maybe it's because the video card is slim down (not on a 10-12inch board like on the PC).. and analogue is easier to do. That is just a random guess. I have a felling that I am strongly wrong on this. Cause I am not convinced by my own reasoning.
