    hi all,

Just recently, I stumbled upon E6400 review video that shows the electronic privacy screen. My question is, how would you know that yours comes/doesnt come with it? Is it in the Dell Control Point? Thanks a bunch!

When you custom build your computer at Dell website, you can pick which screen you want.
You have 3 choices (you may have additional choices.. depends where you are, but these 3 ones are standard):
    - 1280x800 LED backlit screen
    - 1400x900 LED backlit screen
    - 1280x800 LED backlit screen with privacy feature.

It is probably cheaper to buy a bare 9.5mm SATA burner and then swap the release mechanism.

The specs are here. It does all the normal stuff but I don't see DVD-RAM mentioned.

I found out today there are a few "hidden" fn+ combinations:
fn+D = turns off screen (press a key or move mouse to wake up)
the following work with Num Lock turned off:
    fn+7 = Home
    +J = End
    +9 = Pg Up
    +3 = Pg Down
    +M = Insert
    +Period = Del
When combined with fn, the keys that would be 8, 4, 6, and 2 on the "number pad" are up, left, right, and down; just like a keypad when Num Lock is off.
/*-+ act the same regardless if Num Lock is off or on.

Btw, testing on my girlfriend's Latitude D820, some of these are the same, but not all.

I know the SysRq key is useful in linux, does anyone know if it has any use in Windows?

    One more thing:
White rubber erasers are amazing at getting rid of the sticky residue that "I'm-a-refurbished-Dell" stickers leave behind. The cloths used to clean sunglasses work great on wiping down the screen and the keyboard.

    Hello, All gurus.

Well, Now I'm really interested in having E6400 as my replacement to the old HP laptop which has served me for 5 years. I'd like to look for a laptop which can be lasting as my old HP. And I believe that E6400 specification can meet my requirement. But as I have read many web review and posts now I am really confused whether this laptop with Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M has heat problem at GPU or not. I heard some say this laptop is a heat well-controlled but some say that the GPU temperture can reach 70 celcious.

I'd like to ask you guys for your opinion about this issue and whether this level of heat at GPU can shorten working life of the laptop or not. Because now Nvidia is very famous at making crazy hot GPU.

THank you in advance for your kind advices :D

This one is mentioned on Dell Control Panel.
You can set your own keyboard shortcuts with the Fn key to add functionality.. like Eject optical drive tray (Fn+E)

    To add/modify them:
    > Fn + F7 (this will open Dell Control Panel)
    > Go under "Display & Devices" item
    > Click on "Adjust keyboard backlight settings" (yes, I know.. just go along). A new panel will open.
    > On this new panel, go to the "Keyboard hot keys" section.

    Enjoy!
