    Very easy.

    1- Go here: http://wwww.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/vista64/182.50
2- Click on "Driver" to download the drivers
3- Click on "Modded inf" to download a modified version of a inf fiel for teh setup for the setup to accept your GPU (yes, its ok)
    4- Extract the downloaded drivers.
5- Copy the modded inf file and paste it (and replace) where youextract the setup files.
6- Uninstall the current drivers and restart your computer
7- Run setup.exe where you extracted the drivers.

Once the setup is completed and your computer has been restarted, you should be using the Geforce drivers and Nvidia PhysX will be enabled.

FWIW - PCI simple communications controller would either be the modem (if present) or the audio controller.

    Hope that helped.

    Thanks a bunch!

On a second note, I just tried Badaboom since this is my first Nvidia GPU(I'm more of an ATI guy :p), and I have to say that it is SLOOOOW. Encodes with my 160m at the same rate as the 2.4 core 2 duo does with x264. X264 has higher quality though. So if any of you had chosen the 160m for badaboom, don't bother!

The GPU has only 8 processors. But your Geforce GTX 280 has 200 processors working for you. 8 vs 200... Also see how your 200 series GPU loves to heat and use extra power. :)

This GPU is equivalent to a Geforce 9300 (it can render a little more polygons a little faster than the G9300, but a little slower at some effects.. nothing drastic). If you want increase performance, check out my signature for using a profile based overclocking of the GPU to be close to a Geforce 9500M GPU, which is powerful enough to play many of the current games at medium settings (The Witcher, Crysis, FarCry2) or at worst minimum settings (GTA 4), but playable.

If you got this laptop for gaming (ever wondered why usually the powerful GPU are on the larger laptops?), then this something you fell into error, as this is not a gaming machine. The idea of this machine is to do some light CAD'ing on the go, while having a machine cool, and give you desktop level performance for your applications, all by providing fancy features, crazy battery life and solid build.

    Gaming laptops:
    - Alienware series machine with a ATI/Geforce video card
    - XPS 15inch
    - XPS Studio

    Or do like me:
    - Desktop computer for gaming
    - Laptop for light gaming on the go, nothing serious. And, use my desktop computer and enjoy my games at high settings and perfectly smooth.

So you would recommend that I just let them replace the motherboard and heatsink, and pray? Other people here at NBR that had their motherboards replaced had no luck. Still, since SOME people don't have problems, I guess it's worth a shot, no?

Well, I did intend to play games on this guy, but I don't play any FPS so I think a 9300GS equivalent is good enough :p I have a HD 4830 but I don't play anything that the 160M won't be able to handle. I was just excited about the GPU encoding cause I thought it would be at least a good bit faster than a C2D. Not a big loss, it wasn't the primary reason I bought the laptop.

With a Pxxxx CPU and Intel graphics you should be good as far has heat.

I have a T9600 & Nvidia graphics and the E6400 is still WAY better than my original Macbook.
Just make sure to install the most recent drivers and put the battery at "Dell Recommended" or "Power Saver" when you want to cut down on heat.

As far as computing power, this things takes everything I throw at it in stride (Adobe CS3 & 4, AutoCAD, PSpice, Visual Studio, Multiple Virtual Machines).

I'm going to try some light gaming (Bioshock, The Orange Box, Unreal Tournament 3) once this semester's done (May 5...How I count the days)

Unless you already have a favorite mouse, I highly recommend getting the Dell Bluetooth travel mouse. It's a great size, has programmable buttons, and looks great with this laptop. Plus it costs less than any other (decent) bluetooth mouse I could find.
