As I explained, overload is when I load my system and GPU. + my GPU has been overclocked (see details on my post).
Load is when my system and GPU is under load, but the GPU settings was not touched (no overclock).

    How I load my system
    1- Run FurMark
2- Run Everest System Stability Test. (CPU, FPU, CPU cache, system memory), simultaneously.

So technically speaking, these should be approximately the MAX temperature of your system.
if you get something similar without doing so much stress on your system, then something is wrong. Do the same test as I did and compare.

Anybody know about my other questions?

    1. What driver resolves "pci simple communications controller" in device manager?

    2. What driver or app do I need to install to be able to use the volume buttons?

All the drivers and the instruction on how to install all the drivers are in the Dell driver page. Too many people asked about those questions on this forum, so search.

I just got recently an outlet Dell E6400 and have some issues with it.

    1) The volume of the speakers is not strong. Is it supposed to be that way?

    2) More important to me, is or I am going crazy or my solid state hard drive (64 GB not ultra) is changing the free space it has without anything big being installed or uninstalled. Are there other reports on possible malfunctions that could cause this? Also, I have not installed anything big on the computer (nothing above 2GB) and I only have 27GB free left. Is this normal? I would really appreciate input on this one. Because I can still return the computer.

Apart from this I really like the laptop, the looks and the feel of it (not the weight which is on the heavy side).

That's because you lost your hearing. The speakers output sound can fully fill a large classroom at max volume.
    - Download the latest sound card drivers form Dell website.
    - Uninstall the current one.
    - Restart your computer.
    - Install the latest version.
    - Restart your computer.
You should have the new IDT panel in the control panel, which gives you SRS sound settings inside.

Using the same procedure as your sound card, get the latest Intel matrix driver and see if your problem is solved.
If not, sounds like a faulty SSD. Contact Dell for a firmware update or replacement of the SSD or motherboard (it could also be the SATA controller)

This is what happens when you get from the outlet, the system is not really tested.

Cool. Although I don't what people are complaining about the weight. I already had several occasion the laptop with large university books on my back for 45min while I walk to university (when the stupid bus doesn't want show up), with the 9-cell, mouse. I guess it's a question of a good back bag and have the bag well adjusted to you.

My temps when I load the GPU, and with no overclocking, are only 30ºC above yours (102ºC)...

    How can that be???

Assuming you use the same program as I do to check the temps:

Anything above 100 degree C you start damaging your GPU pretty badly in the long run (as the fast change in temperature can brake it. ~90C should be the max for proper operation of 4 years). The heat sink is probably miss installed or the thermal paste is miss placed or has air bubbles. Contact Dell for repair.

(heatsinks are important. (dated: 2001.. imagine with today GPU's and CPU's :D)

In other words you have no clue. In which case you could have just saved your glib little answer.

I didn't ask where the drivers are and how to install them. I asked if anybody knew which driver specifically is required for the "pci simple communications controller". Ya I've search Google a few times and found nothing. This notebook will be running as a DAW and I'm trying to squeeze every ounce of performance and stability out of it, which means, among other things, installing as few applications and drivers as possible.

Fortunately somebody here will probably know. Not you, obviously, though. If I find it on my own, which I will eventually, I'll be happy to post which driver it is so anybody else searching for this specific driver who lands on this thread will know.

I participate in many forums where I offer advice or clarification on different subjects from time to time....including these (go figure I have 2/3 as many posts as you and over double your rep points). I don't think I have ever in my life told somebody to "Go search". It requires all the time investment of offering an answer but with none of the insight.

The 6 cell battery on my Refurbished E6400 has a 6.5% wear based on BatteryBar and RMClock. I have 53946 fully charged capacity out of 57720 designed capacity.

I understand this is not a new machine but should I be concerned about this? It's only been lightly used by me (a few charge cycles). Not sure how it was used by the previous owner.

Would a 6.5% wear on battery for a new machine acceptable?

    Thanks!
