I thought I'd mention here that my problems with stuttering sound has nearly disappeared (relative to before!) after the installation of Dell's latest drivers for the Dell 1510 WLAN card. These drivers aren't available in the E6400's list but on the Studio series laptop's list.

Dell posted new drivers for the Dell 1510 card on May 6. Are those different than the ones for the Studio series?

If you look at the available 1510 drivers under the E6400 and the Studio 1555, the one for the E6400 is dated May 6, while the one for the Studio 1555 is dated February 17?

The driver on the E6400's driver list is version 4.170.77.3 A22-1 (rel. 06/05/09). This version caused endless audio dropout and stuttering. But I found version 5.10.38.26 A23 (rel. 12/01/09) in the Studio 1535's list of drivers. For some reason, Dell doesn't think that the newer version of the drivers is better for the Latitude series. Nor does it seem to be in any hurry to update them.

Edit: I had a look at a few other models and I found that drivers of the same version have been released on different dates for different models, even though they all use the same WLAN card. In some cases newer versions being released before older versions!

Yes, because you won't be able to pull out the battery. I think it need a new base. If you have Next Buisness Day on Site service, expect the technician to take put 3-4 hours max to change the base, as he has to completely disassemble the laptop (base part), and put everything back together and for sure there will be debugging as the laptop has several small connectors where if on it miss connected then the device it is linked to won't work.

Ok, after a few weeks of owning this laptop, I'm having build and cosmetic issues mainly concerning the right speaker grill.

    1) It seems it was poorly painted. A small portion of the paint at the lower right corner of the grill has peeled. It's about a cm. wide. I usually hold the notebook in that area when I have it on my lap. The oils from my thumb can't be that toxic :D

    2) The same speaker grill flexes too much. I'm not sure if it's due to improper seating or the grill itself has bad quality. The left speaker grill feels solid though.

Overall, I still think its a great notebook. It's just these little things that's annoying and sort of disappointing.

it must be a seating issue, mine (e6500, granted) doesnt flex at all.

My (E6400) speaker grills are rock solid. So they should be since the sit on something solid except where over the two small holes for the tweeters.

Do you have the finger-print reader, or not? That, if it's there, is forward of the (shorter) right speaker grill and this seems to be where you have the looseness.

Nope, don't have the fingerprint reader. So it must be a seating problem since the left grill is solid. I'm not too good (haven't tried) at taking laptops apart and I'm not sure I saw anything about taking out the grills when I briefly scanned the product manual pages from Dell's site. Is it easy to do?

The peeling paint is a bummer though. I want to try to either repaint the peeled portion or do something to prevent it from getting any bigger. I have no clue what type of paint to use though.
