The assembly instructions are here. They may help to identify the cause of the problem.

If you have an on-site service warranty then you could ask Dell to send someone to replace the grill and fix it properly.

    Hello,

Just a quick question. On the dutch dell site there is an option between 2 LED screens for the latitude E6400.

15.4in Wide Screen WXGA (1280x800) LED

    and

15.4in Wide Screen WXGA+ (1440x900) with LED backlit

According to Dell the diffrence isn't just the resolution, and the second more expensive option has a brighter screen aswell. This is important for me because it will be used outside in direct sunlight alot. The higher resolution is not important for me, in fact I prefer the lower res. So is Dell right or are they trying to make me get the more expensive option even if I don't need it ?

    Thanks.

There is no bloat. That is why you pay more at Dell buisness. As you pay for the lack of price reduction done with ads.

The only software other than drivers that will be installed on your system is PowerDVD, because XP and Vista Buisness doesn't have a DVD codec, and this program is actually good. And Roxio DVD burning software, which is like any software easy to uninstall. That is all.

Control point main software consists off of 2 exe files. The first is a light one, which is the on-screen notification and makes work all the buttons on your laptop. The second one is the Control Point panel which is bigger application, that allows you to adjust the backlit keyboard, add/remove keyboard shortcut (like Fn+D, to turn off the screen to save power on battery when you don't use it, but don't want to put the machine into sleep), and so on. This last software, has add-ons that you can install for network management, and security management, but it's optional, and I find useless as Vista/Win7 does a great job.

The E6400 is a 14.1 inch laptop. You are probably confusing it with the E6500. In any case, I would risk saying that both screens should have the same brightness, as long as both are LED. This is just guesswork though.

My E6400's WXGA+ display is bright enough to use outside - I've done it. I think there's a photo in my review (link below).

Aah yes sorry I did mean the E6500. Guess i'm in the wrong thread then. Ill look up the other thread.

I also think it will not make any diffrence in terms of brightness between the 2 screens, but the laptop is not for me so I can't take the gamble on a guess :(

On the Dell site click on the "Help me Choose" and select the Compare Side-by-Side tab.

Dell gives some technical details on the screens it sells with its notebooks. I don't know exactly how they get their figures (at what percent brightness, what part of the screen, etc) but it looks as if the WXGA+ plus (at 300 nits) is noticeably brighter than the WXGA (at 220 nits).

This confuses me, but I read somewhere that WXGA+ takes less power. Does that make any sense? I asked the Dell sales people about it when I was buying, but they couldn't tell me anything.

My fingerprint login stopped working last week for no apparent reason. The Vista X64 Business login screen shows fingerprint as an option but the system login does not. Login does not accept fingerprint and the device shows as closed.

I tried to re-enrol fingerprints but get an error every time I select a finger. I have tried removing and reinstalling both the DELL Security Drivers and Applications, clearing TPM disabling etc but nothing appears to make any difference.

Can anyone suggest a method to resolve? There are no errors showing in Device Manager but it appears the fingerprint sensor cannot be seen by the ESC software?

    Thanks in advance.
