This bug is in XP and Vista. Both of these OS forget folder view settings at a random occasion. You realize it more under Vista, because it has more view modes than XP. But It has been confirm that both OS has this problem, and teh fix attempt is the exact same.
My guess is someone at Microsoft did the old Copy and Paste trick from XP to Vista as he was lazy.

Hopefully for us, this problem would be fix in Win7. I have Win7 RC and so far so good (I don't have it at the moment).

    Anyone gone from a T400 to e6400 (or vice-versa).

I'm replacing my T400 with an e6400. My company is insisting on getting me a company issued notebook since I'm not longer on a tech expense budget. I wanted to order another T400 but they no longer offer the WXGA+ LED screen which is just amazing on the T400. I decided to go with the e6400 in a very similar configuration to my T400 (including the WXGA+ LED).

I am excited about the eSATA port, that is something I will definitely get A LOT of use out of that the T400 didn't have. Other than that, they seem pretty comparable. Does anyone have any comments about the differences; build-quality, etc.

I am going to miss the quality keyboard and trackpad on the T400; my expectations are Dell's won't be as nice.

Any comments would be appreciated. I'm nervous about missing the T400 so much, but as an ex-Dell engineer, I'm glad to support my former US employer.

I just got the E6400 like less than 20 minutes ago. Can someone tell me how to get wifi working? It says the drivers are installed but I can't find any network and I'm right atop my router. I'm using the Intel 5300 btw.

Now I hear how weak the speakers are. Good thing I have my own external speakers and earphones.

The keyboard is definitely pretty good on the E6400, I can't say the same about the touchpad. The ALPs is no Synaptics.

Do you have a new laptop or outlet one? I ask because the outlet one, settings in the BIOS could have been changed. Anyway, Make sure that the wireless switch is turned on (meaning you don't see some orange on the switch). You should see your wireless connection in Windows wireless connection manager.
If not, restart your system, go in the BIOS and click on "Load default" (or something like that) button, and then on "Apply" and then quit.
Go back in windows, and switch the wireless off/on, wait a few seconds, and see if you connect.

If this still fails, contact Dell for advise.

lol. I read that in American History class when I was in high school. Obviously, now I forgot everything in that book, but I remembered it was markedly one of the most boring books I read in high school.

Thanks for the info. I just had to go over to Intel and download their software. If I didn't have ethernet I'd be mad as hell right now.,

The DisplayPort on the E6400 is useful: it allows connection to HDTV's and monitors digitally.

Is it HDMI or is there another adapter of some sort I need? That could be useful as my office at home has a 42" LCD.

You need to get a DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor. That costs around $20 from Dell. Cheaper from monoprice.com, but not sure if there are any clearance issues with theirs. If you go the HDMI route, both video and audio will be sent to your HDTV.
