Do you have to do anything special to get the computer to use drivers from intel rather than the drivers supplied by dell? Thanks.

The 5300 is 10$ more, I don't know the difference. I think it's slightly faster, but already I barely use the full speed of G, and I currently know no places that have wireless N yet installed. The only reason why I have it, is in case, one day I fell into a place with Wireless N and set by teh router to only broadcast wireless N (not B or G), so that I won't need a wireless card on my laptop. I didn't take the Dell one, because I think the drivers will be crap.

Thanks for answering, perhaps I will try a displayport-dvi converter before blaming the hardware. As i noticed so big difference between computers I assumed it was hardware failure. If I understand you right there can be just bad "modelspecific" VGA out, and still good displayport out?

I have now tried the 179.13 drivers from laptop2go and with both contrast and gamma adjustability it was possible to get atleast some better picture with the internal display. GREAT! (The VGA external display quality was also improved, but not good enough, unfortunatley.)

I've finally given up on running Vista x64 Untimate on the E6400 after the frequent freezes and lockups. Since Vista was stable in Safe mode, I suspected it had to do with the x64 drivers, and have since swapped to Vista x86 Ultimate and it has been rock solid for 1+ days now. Previously it kept locking up within hours.

I do however notice the poor jerky audio/music playback with 32bit Vista as some of you experience, but this is so much better than when I had my machine running x64.

Yeah that pretty much confirms to me that ControlPoint is what is causing havoc with my hotkeys. Thanks for that.

FYI our company just purchased a second E6400 and I think when I roll it out to the new user it will not have x64 on it. Though I think I'm going to swap mine out with the new one (well at least my HDD and RAM) since the new one is a bit more loaded.

Pure digital output. No bloody analog conversion. Nice.
Where did you get the cable? Dell or 3rd party?

    What is the ControlPoint software?

    [edit]
Ah, it's the Power management software
i don't see why one would use a software replacement of the OS system.
This include for the wireless and everything else... I mean the OS is pretty good, always far better (build quality) than these software, and integrated into the OS.

There are more options in ControlPoint, you can disable specific hardware to save power, and that is the program that displays the prompts for screen brightness, volume, and the like.

And no, I just downloaded the Intel displays drivers right from Intel and installed them. It seems that everything is generic on this. I also use the Intel.com version of the Matrix Storage Manager.

I tried uninstalling all the CP software to get my hotkeys going but nothing worked. I've had this MS Optical Desktop for Bluetooth forever so I went and ordered the MX5500 Revolution set from Newegg. Hopefully it'll work fine with Vista x64.

Have you used that keyboard with Vista before?
