Has anyone tried to output the Dell E6400 to a LCD TV using the DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and connecting via HDMI to a LCD TV? Does the DisplayPort support audio output via the HDMI cable to a LCD TV?

I've had no issues outputting video and audio to a 1080p lcd, even with the intel graphics.

My E6400 arrived! How do I check the BIOS version and verify that software is updated?

My initial impressions/questions are as follows...

    1. Build/design. Laptop seems sturdy enough, but I am definitely not a fan of the squared off edges. Laptop weighs in at 5 lb, 1 oz with the 6-cell battery.

    2. Speakers. The speakers are really quiet. I have the volume cranked up all the way. How do I get more sound out of them?

    3. Webcam. I am running Vista Business. Does Business not have a webcam program like Vista Premium? Dell Webcam central is a way to adjust settings, but how do you use the darn thing?

    4. Screen. Screen looks pretty bright and clear, but I wasn't astounded by it to be honest. How do I know which screen I got? Is there a way to test it to see if it measures up? Also, the text looks rather small. How will adjusting the DPI affect my resolution when it comes to images?

CPU-Z will give you the BIOS version. Software versions can be checked using either help > about (if available) or looking at the driver properties.

    Same as mine.

With difficulty. They are so small they should not be called speakers. Using headphones or external speakers is the only way to get reasonable audio.

You can use it as a video device in Skype or as an image source in graphics software. However, the quality is not very good.

Look at the hardware ID in the properties of plug and play monitor in Device Manager. Changing the DPI for the fonts will not affect the display of images. However, use a standard DPI such as 120. Intermediate values can cause display formatting problems.

    hello folks,
dell exchanged my E6400 some days ago. I noticed that the performance of my previous device was better compared to the new one. right now I've have both of them here, so the first thing i did, was switching the hdd as both nbs are identical hardwarewise. 3dmark06 achieved 1650 instead of 1870. windows aero scored 3.3 instead of 3.5. I had a plug-in for mozilla called "yet another smooth scrolling". websites moved so smoothly with my older nb, but now it's really laggy. I also did a complete new windows installation on the new hdd, but unfortunatly nothing improved. bios version and settings are also indentical. it has something to do with the hardware, as putting the new hdd into the older nb shows improvement of all scrores.

    my E6400 config:
    CPU: P8600
    Video: Nvidia NVS 160m
    RAM: 4GB
    Fingerprint reader disabled

I don't know what to do anymore :(

OK, I checked the BIOS. It is BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. A06, 10/10/2008. Is this good?

I also checked the screen. It is SEC5442. Did I get the Samsung? Are there any tests I can run on it?

You have the latest BIOS, and you have a Samsung screen.
To check if it is calibrated, check out this website:
