I updated the IDT audio driver to the new version. So far so good. No more crackling, popping or breaking sound. But this driver has a problem with Microsoft enhancements so I had to deactivate them all.

for those who can't get bass to activate, even with pc speaker mute, are you running vista (x64?) That is the version I am running, and nothing but disabling the entire device and using the external usb to audio allows me to get bass.

edit -- thanks for the post about the new audio driver, I am installing it now, but not near any external speakers to test -- maybe the multifarious issues have been solved!

edit -- it is saying my hardware isn't supported ... what on earth? anyone else experiencing this (i am running an e6500)

edit -- a restart fixed the hardware not supported issue, but this driver still does not allow me to get bass on vista 64 unless i go usb audio out...

I just found in the Event Viewer a warning that occurs almost every minute:
"Invalid ATAPI version." from the Trusted Drive Manager.
Does this mean something? How can I correct this error?

I just remembered that I reinstalled the Intel Matrix Storage manager afterwards in an attempt to remove only the software but keep the driver. That didn't work but this might have had something to do with the audio driver. I suggest you try it too.

I tried that and indeed, it works better now. Thanks!
(I had to install the Intel Storage Manager Driver from the safe mode because somehow the setup kept freezing in Windows... very strange.. :S)

I do get a DPC Latency greater than > 16000us every some minutes though and with it, of course, I get the crackling.

With the vista audio drivers I was getting skipping occasionally and a DPC latency of around 1 ms. After installing the new IDT drivers the latency shot up to 10 ms consistently and I'm still getting the same amount of skipping.

    I'm confused.

I tested mine and the latency is 10 ms! But I rarely get any crackling with the new driver. I'll test with the old driver and see what it does.

I'm not sure if someone's already posted this but Dell has released a new version of the Dell Control Point Manager.
