Ofelas is the only person who's mentioned this on the M4400,is very common for M1330 user's though, but that has a thermal pad interface.
You might want to PM him if you haven't already.

Dell-Bill_B - I'll take pix next time I open up the 'puter & remove the heatsinks, but at present - it's working, and I reckon I'll leave well enough alone. It's just square Cu shims cut to the the square dimensions of the dies, and the heatsinks installed gently; snug, but not overtightened, with just enough thermal paste to fill in any voids. Of course, in a perfect world, I'd prefer a level GPU heatsink to ensure 100& contact with the GPU die, but hey...

I'll go with A13 hands down; higher threshold temps notwithstanding, I way prefer the thermal characteristics of A13 - less fan kick in & faster fan shut off.

Roger that. I'd be content with any future BIOS retaining the existing thermal characteristics of A13 but adding any of the usual fixes/improvements that BIOS updates generally bring.

Actually using A13 now.. working pretty well, some early concerns over latency compared with previous versions, but its down to ~300 now, so may have been due to some background processes or indexing activity. Also, I have since applied thermal paste and undervolted the cpu. Runs pretty good, not as much fan and not as hot without fan under A13. Will see over a longer period...

Same here, I began with A06 (Fan came on and didnt shut down that easily), A13 (Fan never came on and things were too hot and turned my laptop in to a tabletop). With A12 the fan turns on fairly often but at very slow speed and I seem to be fine with that.

Mine came with A14 preinstalled and while the fans RARELY make a noise, it gets really hot under the laptop and especially at the front of the laptop to a point it >can< but may not always get unbearable
    And this is without load!

Yes I have experienced the same in long time use of A14. I can't really keep it on my lap without having a book in between. And that needs to be a thick book :)

But at least I can now type on the keyboard without getting my palms burnt :D

I am using A11 without the issues you guys speak of. Very low fan noise and only kicks up when I am running some intense VM stuff with SQL, Sharepoint, etc.
