Besides the release date of m6600 and m4600, do you know of any chances to see 16:10 displays for Dell's future workstation class laptops?

Loosing vertical screen space on a developer machine is so disgusting.
I have my m6500 now for 13 month and can remember only one time where I used it to watch a movie where 16:9 is good for.

I agree. I hate the trend towards 1920x1080. I miss those pixels!

So, what's the consensus? Precision M6600 definitely being released this month, just not sure if its sooner or later? Can't wait to get my hands on one.

Nice! I completely forgot to look at the M6600, since I'm looking for 15.6 laptops :D. Strange how the IPS screen isn't listed for the M6600. Probably a typo though. Firepro M8900 + IPS = AWESOME!

yet again with this 1366x768 BS. Why don't they offer 1600x900 as the absolute minimum on these portable 15.6" workstations like HP does with their 8560w and Lenovo now does with the quad-core base model W520?

I know my university will be selling a M4600 preconfig in their bookstore next year. Here's to hoping it gets 1920x1080 rather than 1366x768. Last year's M4500 came with 1600x900, but that option appears to be absent on the M4600. If they sold it with the IPS 1920x1080 then that would be awesome, but they normally keep both of their workstation pre-configs (Dell & Lenovo) around the $1600 price point though so it would depend which screen fits within their budget.

Though last year their M4500 and W520 came with the 820QM, so since they probably won't need to include the 2820QM this year due to near-negligible performance gain from the 2720QM for most applications, they should be able to include the 1920x1080 display. I've already sent them an email regarding this.

A search on Google for the Precision m4600 (link) gives a link to an Intel HD graphics driver (link). I'm assuming that the new Precisions will have nVidia Optimus. Hopefully, it can be disabled in the BIOS for us Linux users.
