O.K, the fundamental question is: will the image transfer initiated by the Restore CD run at USB 3.0 speeds even though the recognition and USB 3.0 driver installation for the external drive will only be at USB 2.0 speeds.

    Thanks,
    Harvey

Assuming you are doing this by booting into your optical drive after BIOS POSTing and transferring the image into the USB 3.0 drive? The answer is no.

Now if you were doing this within Windows, then yes.

The fact I can reach is in your situation, USB 3.0 at the moment is useless for you really... Stick with eSATA until Ivy Bridge.

O.K, thanks. I'm really surprised that Dell would release new SB business machines without eSATA support and crippled USB 3.0 functionality. Surprisingly, the only Dell desktop that supports eSATA (as well as the "crippled " USB 3.0) is the new SB Alienware model. I guess I'll be looking at that.

Thanks for this information, it really helps alot.

It is weird why they will pull out eSATA. eSATA is still faster than USB 3.0 and it is still a popular power port to be honest...

Hm, looks like Dell ran out of webcams for their M4500s. Those who are still deciding between the Mx500 and Mx600 should probably make a decision soon before more parts become unavailable.

No, for m4600 it is RAID 0/1 with one HDD slot and a MINI PCIe mSata SSD.
m6600 supports RAID 0/1/5 with two HDD slots and one MINI PCIe mSata slot.
