Honestly I would be surprised if Ivy Bridge work station laptops are released before the end of 2012.

AMD Switchable Graphics Technology listed "Compatible hardware" is not up-to-date.

Optimus may not be turned off via bios - at least not its current iteration. That was possible with nvidia hybrid graphics, which Optimus is not.
edit: Furthermore, optimus (current iteration) is not Autodesk friendly. As the owner of 2 optimus systems, I can tell you with certainty that AutoCAD 2011/2012 does not properly detect or use optimus enabled graphics hardware @3dconfig/heidi. Issues bleed into revit, though less severely, and max 2010/2011 viewports.
editagain: I see below me havoctex, who seems to be a Dell employee? Can you please comment on the current Optimus/Autodesk situation? Also - I feel stupid for correcting someone who most likely knows more than I do - just commenting from experience.

I was hoping to see some more news on 6600/4600! Eagerly awaiting launch.

Sorry but I'm not sure how else to answer this, we use standard MXM GFX cards in the M4600 & M6600. We don't "lock" them. Not sure who you talked to but they don't know what they were talking about. Sorry about the confusion. I will have to setup some training for them.

Are you 100% certain that there's no way of manually switching from the AMD GFX to the IGP on the new Precision's?? This can easily be done on the AW M17x and M18x (through the AMD's Catalyst Control Center).

I see where the discrepancy on the docking station is coming from.

If you start with the low-end configuration where the AMD 5950 graphics card is an option, then you will get the E-Port Replicator Plus as an optional accessory.

If you start with the high-end configuration where the only video options are the two NVidia cards, then you can't downgrade to the AMD 5950 and you will also not get the E-Port Replicator Plus as an optional accessory.

I'm not sure what this means. Does anybody have any information on it?

Luckily 30" 2560x1600 monitors are still alive and well. ;)

I only have one motherboard and had to make a decision to go one way or the other. The decision was made to go with NVIDIA Optimus vs the AMD solution.

The decision was made to only support one motherboard on these systems and to do that a decision needed to be made on which solution to go forward with, the decision was made to go with NVIDIA Optimus.

On the M4600 and M6600 the Optimus solution can be toggled on and off in the BIOS by the user. This should address your issues. Don't feel bad about correcting me, you didn't. :)

The only 1920x1200 monitors are professional business ones. That resolution has disappearing from the consumer market entirely, excluding used ones. Everything is 1080p in the consumer market. The only hope I see for new mobile workstations is if they go higher than 1200p, but I doubt that will happen as the cheapo laptop fever has brought the last niche market of mobile workstations down to 1080p resolution.

For Optimus, you cannot disable Intel graphics as the final display is through the IGP.

    Very nice.
I was quite disappointed to find these issues with my Optimus systems.

Do you know anything of plans re; 2920xm lockbit?
