Wow, this is the best thing i ever heard with Dell.
I would like to know more on this, as far as i know, there are several version of MXM, so what version M4600/6600 is using? the latest seems to be MXM 3.0b.

Even if M4600/6600 supports MXM, does the bios need to recognize the card for it to be fully utilized? From past experience if the card is not natively recognized in the bios there will be problem using it, i.e. power saving mode, power drawn etc.

In this case, can a 485m be thrown into M4600/M6600 ?

    Thank you

I too was wondering the same thing, about the same card! Was also wondering what the max power draw for the gpu was in each system. We already know the M6600 can take 100w cards, but what about the M4600?

I think power draw is not a major issue, as long as the power adapter for M6600 has the same connector as M4600, then just buy the 240W for M6600 and plug into M4600.

Clevo is using 180W adpater for 485m card.

If BIOS supports it, the next hurdle is the cooling system. M6600 should be able to handle the 485M (similar to the 5010M), not sure about the M4600.

I am getting a M4600. 2000m is just too slow, and i hope at least a 3000m will be able to replace it without power problem. 4000m or 5010m both 100W and i don't think M4600 can handle it.

After all, still back to the bios support issue. Even if the bios supports it, where to get 3000m ...? seems there is no seller except for notebook manufacturer, and they won't simply sell graphic card alone.

Yeah, actually finding a good consumer card to upgrade to at a decent price is hard enough, Quadro and Firepro cards are basically non-existent out there.

Best places to look are of course Ebay and MXM Upgrade Home Page

    Best place is RJTech.

And everyone saying the M4600 can't handle it, well we haven't even seen the cooling system yet - It could be quite beefy:)
