    Thank you.

I just checked the "Dell Community Forums" at dell.com and no joy. I think I remember seeing a M6600 at Dell for with 32Gb/1600Mhz ram, but this upgrade cost $thousands more.

    -oops1600Mhz Extreme Performance Memory

    16.0GB, DDR3-1600MHz SDRAM, 4 DIMMS [add $465.00]

    8.0GB, DDR3-1600MHz SDRAM, 4 DIMMS [add $80.00]

    1333Mhz Advanced Performance Memory

    32.0GB, DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM, 4 DIMMS [add $5,485.00]

    16.0GB, DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM, 4 DIMMS [add $295.00]

8.0GB, DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM, 2 DIMMS [Included in Price]

I will email Dell tech support.

Dell advertises the general specs here
    Precision M6600 ? High-Performance 17" Mobile Workstation | Dell
and I quote "Blistering performance with extensive DDR3 memory with four DIMM slots for up to 32GB3 of 1333MHz memory or up to 16GB3 of 1600MHz memory"

Again, I will email Dell tech support and google this a little more.

Thanks Bokeh - good to know I'm not the only one (or hallucinating):)).

Yes - I also think it's a result of the Optimus thing in conjunction with the docking station never physically removing the external display - even when I'm only using the internal LCD...

Memory speed and size limitations are set by the HM67 chipset and the processor used becuase of the processor's internal memory controller.

All the current i7 27xxM, 28xxM, 29xxM (Quad-Core) DDR3 maximum is 1600MHz regardless of the fact the HM67 chipset can see up to 1800MHz. The way the CPU's memory controller addresses the data channels differently between 1333MHz and 1600MHz is the primary reason behind the respective 32/16GB limitations.

Yes just get the 16gb of ram. If you are using all 32 gb, your cpu will be a bottlneck way before you reach 32 gb anyways.

that 32gb is a huge ripoff. Although I got them, I really do not understand "why." Its pretty pointless...

Called Dell today and they are going to replace the entire system. Since it's refurbished I get to play the refurbished replacement lottery. They let me specify what I could and couldn't live without, so hopefully I'll still have my touchscreen, backlit kb, M8900 and at least a 2720qm. I'll update when I find out.

I called Dell today too, about our M6600 that came in on Friday with the bad video card. He wanted to send a tech out tomorrow, but I declined since the last tech visit on our other M6600 was a disaster. He said they had to have a tech visit and attempt a repair before tech support could do a replacement. They transferred me to customer care to arrange for a replacement through that dept, customer care transferred me back to tech support since only tech support can do a replacement.

Tech support finally agreed, but I had to explain the different types of Outlet PCs Dell has: Refurb, New, and scratch and dent.

Since this one was a "New" outlet M6600 that's what we wanted in replacement. They really are the best cosmetic ones to get, should have only new parts, and they should have no Chi Mei panels. He said he had no official way of requesting that, but he would mark the request that I wanted a "New" outlet M6600. That's not Kosher if you ordered a outlet "New" and got back a refurb. You usually pay a bit more for the "New".

I got no offers of upgrades on mine at all, especially after the fiasco we have gone though.
