It appears that the IPS and Touchscreen panels use the same thicker top panel.

The IPS Panel has an additional Interposer card that appears to bridge the connections between the panel and DisplayPort connection on the motherboard.

For msata drives, what's a good brand for something that's 60-120gb? I hear samsung is good but I can't find it on amazon. I assume the rule of thumb is to avoid sandforce due to flaky reliability.

Almost the same configuration as you, except Intel Core I7-2760QM. Decided to buy just the minimum amount of RAM and 1 HD of 250GB. Read further...

    1) Have just the LG HD screen (with flickering on lowest brightnes levels).

    2) Have just the AMD FirePro M8900, what is enough for me.

    3) removed the RAM and replaced it with 4 x 8GB Corsair ValueSelect, type CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9 (total amount 32GB). Works flawlessly. No problems with it, even after running for more than 8 hours.

    4) replaced the one HD with 2 hybride drives from Seagate (in each HD bay one), type Momentus XT 750GB. One with OS, one for VMWare virtual machines running in Workstation 8.01. Windows 7 Professional 64bit is starting up fast.

Hope this was helpfull for you.

    Hello, everyone...

Before I start I know you guy's don't need my 2cents opinion, but please let me say that THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ASTONISHING and fullfilling notebook forums i've ever read.

I bumped into this thread while seeking a new laptop for work, web/multimedia/video editing/streaming needs, and then landed here trying to grab some info (and there's AN INFINITE AMOUNT of good advise :D ).

Anyway, I HAVE READ THE WHOLE THREAD  (again, incredibile info and review) during these past 4 nights and halfway through, I ordered my M6600 the 29th of Dic. It is already IN PRODUCTION status, and should be delivered between the 16th and the 24th of Jan (I'm ordering and live in Italy).

    This is my machine:
    I7-2720QM
    16GB 1600MHz
    NVIDIA Quadro 3000M
    Hard Drive 750GB (7200 RPM)
SCREEN Ultrasharp™ FHD (ris. 1920x1080) Wide View LED-retroill 17.3" with Premium Panel Guarantee
    Windows® 7 Pro (64bit) Italiano
    Windows® 7 Pro XP Mode
    etc., etc..

Online Price: 2.890,69 € taxes and shipping included
Called Dell Italy (THX AGAIN for the suggestion on this forum) and managed to get price down to € 2193,55 (prices are so HIGH here in Europe!!)

I 'kinda got scared' around page 160 or so with the "Chi Mei/AUO/LG screens debate", flickering non flickering, more o less grainy, Premium Screen o less... :( :( Hope i don't run into this jam ! Does anyone still pay attention to this issue? I'm gonna ask for help :)

Also i understood that the basic keyboard is not retro-illuminated...
After reading all the posts, i guess i'm calling my sales rep tomorrow asking to upgrade from 3Yr Basic Warranty to 3Yr ProSupport ;)

Crossing my fingers, and thx for this great reading experience... Hope the notebook is as good as it seems... it'd be a pretty big upgrade for me, coming from a 4 year old HP 8710w, Core2 Duo [email protected], Quadro FX1600M 512mb, 2 gb ram.... Worked like a horse and travelled so much... but feeling the age :)

I got my M6600 today. It is LG Philips manufactured in 2010. The screen seems like the contrast is WAYYY off... It is actually very horrible compared to the 1080p screen I had on the M4600.

I am going to reinstall the os soon to see if this makes the difference. How sure if this premier color software is screwing it up. But it really is horrible...

Btw for those with a lot of ram, if you want to play around with ramdisk it destroys the ssd speeds. About 5 gig read and 7 gig write per sec. But I digress.

    Cool, thank you.

Now if I can just figure out a way to uncheck the built-in microphone option I'll be able to actually place an order.

My refurb M6600 has a LG screen, that HWInfo says was made in 2010, but Dell support says that can't be right it would be too old. Do you have any flickering on the lower backlight settings?

that's why there is UK Outleet

Users pay attention, no info from Dell side excluding replacing CMO to other screens (some people from this company seems to monitor this thread).

The could say at least - we could help with this, this and this (for example new BIOS will be prepared), this, this and this can't be covered by warranty, we have tried this, this and this (for example - in our lab we have tested such and such screens).... (something like was done by Samsung right now - they officially confirmed, that they will not release officially Android Ice Cream for Galaxy S family and situation is clear)

Like I said in the http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...0712-m6600-owners-thread-304.html#post8207886: I give to the screen max. 6 or 7 from 10 points, to the support 7 or 8 from 10 points
