For some odd reasons, LG panels don't go well with Dell components. They all flicked! I replaced twice on my XPS 17 and it still flickers to this day. Bios revision did not help either.

You scare me with your outlet stories! Ugh.

The first machine should not have come with a bad panel, but it sounds like what really made the machine go back was an inept repair person.

Same thing with the second machine - bad part should have been caught at the outlet. I remember reading your posts about the video card. If I remember correctly it was obviously bad.

The on/off flickers on the LG panel don't seem normal. I am glad that it was fixed with the Bios, but it still seems weird to me.

I have read that the WLED backlighting can flash on and off as little as 100 times a second. The human eye can only detect 10 times a second. Movies run at 24 frames a second, and you can't see those frames. The CCFL and FL lights in your home or office turn on and off at 50-60 times a second and you don't see that. In theory you should not be able to see any flicker on the screen no matter what the backlighting does.

It makes we wonder if what people are seeing is interference from room lighting or something similar to the interline twitter effect. When you tune an instrument and have two sources of almost the same note, you will hear beats that decrease in their time of arrival until the notes are tuned exactly the same and the beat goes away. If you go the other way and tune the two notes farther apart, you the beat will get so fast that you can't hear it and you eventually make a two note chord. Could it be that even at a 100hz WLED backlight frequency something else is causing the interline twitter by being almost divisible by 100? Does the LG panel WLED backlighting go lower than 100hz?

I guess LG will have to figure that one out since it seems to be related to their panel under very specific conditions.

Go tell that to the M6500 forum :)

Everyone over there wanted the LG RGBLED panel over the Samsung. I had the Samsung and traveled 10 hours to see and calibrate the LG (ok I also went to Disney too).

M6600 is example of excellent engineers work in my many areas (for example cooling system is brilliant) and I agree with it. My first feelings were very positive and I decided not to return it to the shop. Later, when I had time, I started to setup it according to my needs.

And guess what ? I wasn't/I'm not able to use it with comfort for longer time. In the past (other computers) similar things were connected with fonts, colors settings (and I have spent here a lot of time with setting Clear Type and other Windows settings) and instability issues (flickering, etc).

After some research I have found, that I have CMO panel.

Happily it was replaced to AUO. I see much better colors, but problems are still available.

What I observe (I agree - with digital camera, but this is strong proof), is effect similar like on this video: Dell U2412M LED Backlight flickering - YouTube. Effect is unavailable on highest brightness level only. This seems to be result of low/wrong frequency used for backlight.

Additionally I think, that matt here is not full matt (but I write clear everywhere, that this is AUO fault rather).

I'm very thankful for replacing CMO panel, but I still have unresolved problem (I don't have workstation, which fit my needs in 100%). I understand, that parameters are very impressive on the paper (and not only), but I don't feel so good even like with my few years old TV. I would like to decide something, but I need some information first.

Should I sell M6600 and try to switch to other company's product (which can be worse in various areas) ? Should I buy monitor for it ? Should I wait for BIOS update ? Should I buy some other panel and try to replace it on my own ? Is any other solution available ?

I don't know now and I don't have lab for checking all possibilities. I have of course first tried to send some emails and call support with this and some other things. And nothing. I could give more info, test upcoming BIOS version, but nobody was interested in more deeply speaking about it (imagine, that problem affects 10% users - if it's not visible in the lab, somebody should contact user, right ?)

After all these steps I'm simply tired and when I don't see any other way I'm doing what I'm doing. And I can't differently, because it's not product for one week and price for it was/is quite high (additionally it looks from my past experiences, that in many big companies you have many very helpful people, but such companies are respecting more offensive actions only)...

I don't expect impossible things (I hope :)), I just need a little bit help and advice, nothing more.

^^I believe that after when you installed the AU panel, you must also install a driver patch. There is a link for download buried somewhere in this forum.

no, no, no. My opinion about cooling system in M6600 is excellent. I was writing in my note, that various other systems are overheating.

I wish you guys could see my LG flicker. It's not really a flicker, it's like a bad short. It can be seen by anyone at 25 feet away. It reminds me of a fluorescent light with a bad ballast.

I'm not confident a bios flash is the answer, it worked at first, came back, flash again, and so far, OK. I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling about it.

The M6600 with the bad video card was obvious. Right out of the box. It failed the Dell diagnostics and had the classic bad video card symptoms of wild colors, red stripes. Windows would not load with the video card drivers installed.

I'm not sure how Dell defines the refurbs. I was told once by a Dell outlet rep that the refurbs are units returned within the 21 day period. This can't be all true, since I have seen much older PCs and laptops in the outlet, last years models with last years CPUs.

On two of our refurbs, they forgot to clear the warranty info online, one had a warranty start date of 6 months before, and had some wear on it. One of the "previously ordered new" had a few scuffs on it, with a warranty start date of 2 months before. I'm assuming that a 6 month old refurb could be one that Dell agreed to take back after attempted repairs. Very well could be a problem machine. I'm not sure how they handled them. it does seem they need to tighten their QC

Like I said in my previous posts - I respect many M6600 solutions, but it simply doesn't fit my needs, because some questions are unanswered:

    1. Dell U2412M LED Backlight flickering - YouTube -> can be it fixed ? how ?

    2. can be something done with half matt on my display ? I was thinking about foil, but maybe you know something better :)

    3. why ASF option in my BIOS isn't visible ? Is this technology disabled or can be my M6600 remotely controlled ?

These are facts and unfortunately I can't check IPS, because there aren't shops near me with it available.

At least the lowest 4, though it was less noticeable with each step up. I didn't test beyond 3 steps from the dimmest setting.

    I tested only at 60Hz.

I tested it with both the OOB drivers and a fresh install using 12.1 preview.

The BIOS on both machines was up to date (A07).

I made sure to tell the customer service rep the new screen had flickering issues and that it was going back with the refurb. What actions she takes knowing this... I can only guess.

    Hello all,
If you have a LG FHD panel that is flickering when the brightness is set to the bottom settings please contact Dell service and reference PSQN number 215517. This is a reference document that should explain to support what steps need to be taken.
    Tks,
