    Thanks a lot @Kosta20071

Dell still lists the Intel driver with the service tag for my M6600 with IPS so that's why I was thinking they might be trying to develop a driver that worked, but you explanations seems to override that possibility. Cheers

PD For those cleanly installing an M6600, specially with IPS or non-tech-super-experts ones but wanting to have some control over what they are doing, you can get the order, files and more info here: Precision M6600 guide for new owners - Re-install OS, remove/replace HDD, etc. [will be updated] - Page 2 (updated)

Quick strange question, if I want to use my optical bay as another hard drive since I never use CDs anymore, can I just buy any ol optical bay since they should all do the same thing and they all should be the same dimensions? And if say I were to throw in a ssd, would I still be able to get my awesome sata 3 speeds?

The M6600 uses the HM65 chipset which supports up to 2 Sata III Hds but if i recall correctly they are connected to the hd slots.
    HM65 Specifications
I guess you will be able to connect a Optical Bay and use a third hd at reduced speeds.

There are only two SATA-3 ports (for the two internal hard drives). The rest of the ports --- optical, eSATA, and mSATA --- those are SATA-2.

That said, an optical drive bay should work fine (make sure it is 9.5mm height and not 12.5mm).

M6600 is very good, but... first posts on this thread are from May 2011. Today we have January 2012 and some issues are unresolved with "normal" screens. I don't personally expect too much right now from Dell (if they weren't able to make fixes in 7 months in the flagship device, although have a lot of experiences from previous series...), I advice to check IPS on your own before buying or prepare plan B (external monitor or other machine)

The issues with regular screen is only when you use the laptop on battery?

And I also wanted t make sure if the screen flashes only when you turn the brightness very low?

Like always Dell fuc**s something up and doesn't fix it, so typical for them . Can't understand how they maintain to do such things and we still buy their laptops LOL. Seems like we ,the buyers, got them used to behave like this without punish and still buy their products. If I go on a meeting and the screen will have a problem I will be very angry so watch out Dell!

And BTW there are also some complains on the IPS screen as well as far as I know.

Not everyone has the same issues he does. I have an M8900 with the AUO screen and everything is perfect. With the LG screen I had massive flicker on lower brightness.

the problem is in method used for controlling brightness, Dell simply went too far with decreasing frequency (as least this is what I suspect here).

well, I was using Dells many years ago and they were very good, M6600 also had good reviews. For now: I will probably exchange it and forget about Dell products, I'm only waiting for one BIOS release to see how it will work like... For now I could give (scale 0-10):

    - build quality: 9,5 (small details visible)

    - silence: 9,5 (small details visible - for example Dell could make a little better legs muffling HDD vibrations, happily I found solution at least for this :D)

    - speed: 10 (no throttling, ability of exchanging GPU, etc.)

    - screen: 6 or 7 (Dell is partially depended from technology, but...from the second hand my eyes like LCD TVs from years and it's possible to handle them correcly :D)

    - general software ideas: 6 or 7 (recovery partition, non standard drivers, lack of "plain" Windows installation media, lack of info about some BIOS options... - of course it's possible to resolve it partially, but it needs time; advantage is support for Windows XP)

    - support: 7 or 8 (CMO screens were canceled, but...)

    - general hardware ideas: 9,5 (M6600 is modular, has got matt casing, two fans, Optimus, etc.; big shame, that there isn't available ability of switching between integrated Intel and separate ATI card at least in BIOS)

What could I say ? With fixes, better screen (120 Hz ?) and sound card/speakers (subwoofer ?) it could be excellent workstation for all segments (gamers, ...).
