Considering buying a refurbished M6600 (cpu Intel 2720 or higher) with ATI M8900 as gaming rig, can someone tell if M8900 is fast enough to play Skyrim with all graphics options on/at full 1920x1080 at a reasonable (30 fps or better) frame rate?

M8900 is essentially a 6970M. It should perform similar and though it technically will perform a little worse, I can only imagine that you can actually perceive the minor difference. So yes it will play well.

If you want a gaming rig.. Go for the Alienware.

Damn I cannot find how to reconfigure my Fingerprint reader. I set it up originally I assume with ControlVault but I cannot find the app. Now it seems to be struggling to read my fingerprints so I need to reconfigure. Any ideas?

I'd like to hear personal experiences about M6600 with M8900 as there's many reports about Ati 6970 users having bad framerate with Skyrim. So does it play reasonably (at least 30fps) or no, or even really well (50-60 fps).

There are reasons why i can't go for Alienware so that's not an option (XPS 17 might be, but that's place for another discussion somewhere else).

I don't have Skyrim, but it performs VERY well for lots of other games, recent ones including BF3 (45-60fps), I can't see it being awful for Skyrim since my girlfriend plays it reasonably smoothly with a 6570 or something (Lenovo ideaPad W560p). While it's the same GPU as a 6970, the M8900 uses different drivers and is optimized differently unless you flash the vBIOS.

I am VERY satisfied with the performance in everything I've thrown at it thus far.

EDIT: Oh and the M8900 will stomp the hell out of anything available in an XPS 17. If those are your choices, you want the M6600 hands-down.

It is a 6970M with a different vBios.. I installed the latest preview drivers (catalyst 12.1) and it shows and performs as a 6900 series card.
