Hi I have an E6520 and my i7 2760 is about 52-55c on light load like surfing the web (10 tabs open) and/or ms office, is this a good value? what temps you had prior re-paste on your M6600 which has a better cooling system?

with prime 95 i was getting 86c ish in few mins. Idle was 44 all cores

Now: 44 all cores and 76-79ish for the highest core, which is core 3. Core 3 side is the side with one screw, while core 0 has two screws. I think this is the sole reason. Very bad.

Hey everybody...I'm looking to pick up a m6600 this coming week. I'm trying to figure out where the best place is to get it. I've looked at everything on the Dell Outlet site, but I'm having a problem with it because I'm not sure if all the features are listed or if they are only listing the most important ones. For instance none of those computers mention anything about a backlit keyboard (which I want) nor a few other features i'd like. Anyways, any suggestions (besides Ebay)?

What is on your wish list? 90+% of the current M6600's come standard with the backlit keyboard.

Hey guys I am having serious problems and wanted to ask some questions before I talk to Dell (because they are idiots):
    1. I have 2920XM CPU and the max frequency it goes is 3192.9 Mhz (32.0 X99.8 MHz) is this ok? shouldn't it be 3.5 Ghz?

    2. When I install INF Update no matter where from (intel or dell's site) , my M6600 goes creazy. When I switch to dual monitor I get BSODs when I am plugged to the AC Adapter but it works good on battery because the video card and CPU consume less power. This happens when Optimus is ON or off it doesn't matter.

    3. When Optimus is disabled I need to turn my laptop several times till a picture appears on my laptop screen. However, the OS is booting fine even when I have no picture on my M6600.

Pls I need your help , Dell are driving me crazy there was even one guy that told me to go to Nvidia's website ->Optimus technology and download the driver for Optimus hhhhh.

I think all the problems I have are happen because of Power Management and wanted to know If the AC adapter cause this or maybe the motherboard. I have Quadro 4000M BTW.

My M6600 has been so stable that I never even cared to check the CPU temperatures with torture tests such as Prime95 - information in this thread made me intrigued though, and I'm sorry to say that my CPU core #3 gets well over 90C in no time at all :(

Does anyone have any experience with Dell service as far as fixing this (by re-applying the paste properly)? I'd prefer Dell doing this to opening the system myself, but if this kind of issues are not covered with their warranty - could someone post a step-by-step instructions on DIY thermal paste replacement?

PS: Unlike the CPU, my GPU is being cooled very effectively indeed - even slightly overclocked it seldom exceeds 70C !

Moldcad: go to dell.com/drivers where u can find user manual which has step by step direction. Dell usually wont repaste for you. You can actually see that the heatsink is surprisingly disappointing: small. Make sure you screw the screws alright because there is one screw on one side and two on the other so you will experience much hotter core 2 and core3.

EVERYONE: I cannot seem to get my lcd brightness control work. I have tried every driver. I get that control thing pop up that shows how I am controlling the brightness setting (which is normal) but the actual brightness does not change!! I do not think my repasting had to do with anything.

Guys -- my clevo gfx card on the np5793 finally bit the dust so I am going to forced to buy a machine sooner than I wanted to.

    1) Any one have a good Dell sales rep they can PM me?

    2) Is the only way to avoid being Chin Mei'd is torder the IPS screen?

    3) Online sales cannot configure the IPS screen because of that configuration error with Noise Cancelling mic -- I would like to get this ordered as soon as possbile. Do the phone chat folks have different configuration tools than the web chat folks?

    Thanks.
