First of all thanks to everyone for their help. My old clevo had finally died of gfx card failure and I needed a new machine. This and the 8760w were at the top of the list.

I order min spec except for the 2760qm, IPS and the 5010 video card through the member purchase plan. This is the spec I had really wanted for a long time and Small Business site did not allow it until someone here helped me out. I canceled my original order and ordered,

If anyone is curious, I paid about $3200 plus CA taxes. Anyone who wants a good sales rep let me know and I will PM them.

Got my m6660 (replacement unit) on the 20th Jan 2012, order date 11 Jan 2012.

My old m6500 covet has too much repairs in one stretch
    - LCD Panel bent (dell tech mistake)
    - LCD latch lock broke
    - Frequent GPU black sreen hang
    - Plastic panel above the keyboard always come loose.
    - FIPS Finger Print Reader not detected
    - Frequent BSOD
    - Changed me the wrong motherboard with wrong service tag ID (caused problem with my Computrace)
    - CPU overheated (dell's mistake for not supplying a new CPU heat-sink with factory applied thermal paste)
    and etc...

One problem leads to another. I have 3 mobo, 2 GPU, 2CPU, 1 LCD planel, 1x full case change for my m6500. My brand new unit purchased in Feb 2011 ended up with almost all Dell refurbished parts after all the strings of parts replacement.

Complained 3 times for being a loyal precision customer and the 3rd time I got mean, they gave me a WUR (Whole Unit Replacement) for a new m6600.

    Here are my specs
    1. i7-2860QM
    2. 1920x1080 FHD n-Trig Multi-Touch screen with FHD Webcam
    3. Nvidia Quadro 4000m
    4. 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333Mhz
    5. 256GB SATA3 6Gb/s LiteOn (this is weird, have not heard of LiteOn for SSd)
    6. 500 GB HDD 7200RPM
    7. FIPS FingerPrint & smart card reader

Dell has clearly improved on the m6500 ALOT in terms of the case and a design for professionals.

One thing I am still quite disappointed with Dell is the software, which I think was not tested at all. As the problem can easily be reproduced on all my past Precisions models.

    To reproduce
    1. Right-Click on "Dell Smart Settings" icon at windows task bar & open
    2. One the "Dell Smart Settings" window shows up. Minimize it.

It will show as the Dell Smart settings which has been resized and you will never be able to resize it at its original state. Try it... :)

The only way out is reboot or kill the process and restart it.

I agree 100% with dell softwares. They are slow, unresponsive, and often unreliable. They need to get things together..

This is the reason why I opted Dell NOT to send out a tech but rather just send me the parts so I can take care of them myself. On my initial unit ordered back in late Nov. 2011, I replaced the faulty BD drive and two lcd screens due to flickering issues, but that didn't help much so the only resort was to order a new system replacement. Then the new computer came with a faulty USB 3.0 port so they ended up sending me a whole new MB and USB port. I started out with just replacing the USB daughterboard which all went well. Then another problem slowly rises; the 'Power' button didn't seem to respond all that well since day one so I let it slide, now it takes about 5-7 pushes to get the thing turned on (or if I hold it down for a second). Needless to say, today I received the new Palmrest assembly which includes the power button and mouse which I will be replacing tomorrow. The reason for the wait is: I'm waiting for a motherboard RC2032 CMOS lithium battery which I ordered elsewhere. The reason for the replacement is that I get an error message about my battery "needs to be replaced" even though I'm not using the 6-cell battery. Dell couldn't figure it out so I thought a $3 investment wouldn't hurt.

Dell is good at taking care of you when there are problems, they are fast and efficient but I wish the product could be a little less problematic so that it can save us all the hassles. Such a shame because honestly (with my XPS 17 L702x) besides the few technical and non-technical design flaws, it started to grow on me. Hopefully with all the support and fixes we can go about and enjoy what we paid for, and not headaches.

Ok, so I've been following you guys for a month or so and I finally decided to purchase the m6600. I was going originally going for a middle of the road system but I saw a steal on eBay for a 2 month old system and went with it. However it's in need of upgrades...

    i7 2720QM 2.2GHZ
    AMD FirePro 8900
    4G RAM 1333
    750 GB hhd
    1920 x1080 FHD
    backlit keyboard
    Camera + Mic, etc...

When I saw this auction for only like $850, I couldn't pass it up (ended up around $1250) but that's still a good deal. I was going to pick-up some RAM first from a store here (MicroCenter)...they have Corsair 8GB 1333ghz sticks for only $80 bucks each.

    When I read this...

I was wondering should I repaste my cpu and gpu as well? Is that just a good practice. Also, I'm pretty confident I can do it, but if I decide to take it to a professional how many hours do you think I should be charged for? If I do it myself any "tips" or things I should watch out for (other than dropping screws on the motherboard, and static?)
