I ordered it. I just want the thinkpad keyboard feel and really no manfacturer offers it -- I heard the old D600 keyboards were closer to the thinkpads.

    I absolutely hate chiclet keyboards.

I want good key travel and its completely disappearing now.

the keyboard for the precision line is very nice. I really like the rubbery yet plastic feel to it. Very comfortable typing.

Good to hear that. I suppose I will be happy if its better than my clevo keyboard (which is awful) -- the worst thing for me are when the trackpad resets my cursor in a totally different part of the screen without me knwing it.

I hope there is a way to disable the trackpad when I want to.

Yes, 300 nits confirmed with 3 users. Dell needs to update their site :)

The IPS panel is as bright or brighter than the WLED.

The Dell site is not currently correct. The IPS panel is confirmed to be 300 nits. My own measurements and others confirm this.

The Touchscreen and IPS lid and bezel are very close, but NOT identical. I have a camera and mic with my IPS screen. Not sure if there is a difference in the mics.

I am working on a proper teardown and comparison of the Touchpanel and IPS panel with pictures and part numbers as soon as I have some extra time.

I am working on it for you. It is more than the cables. There is an extra circuit board with the IPS panel that adapts the output from the M6600 to the inputs on the LG Panel. Will get you a complete parts list as well as pics this week.

Update - Looks like the mounting brackets are on the same on the touchscreen and IPS. You may be looking at a long parts list :)

Is the m-sata bottom off or under the keyb?
PS found a great util for monitoring you memory and programs, dlls etc.. MS sysinternals Process Explorer enables you to work out your optimal caching. I have turned around again and putting a 120GB OCZ Technology Nocti mSATA, MLC-Flash, Read 280MB/s, Write 260MB/s, SandForce 2141/2181, 32,000 IOPS in and reinstalling my OS on it. 8GB 95MB/s SD readyboost, 512 7200 HDD and 1TB 5400 Backup drive with Trueimage 2012.
I discovered something the other day and I don't know if any of you folks have heard about it. I took delivery of my M6600 configured with Raid. I then changed the registry and switched to AHCI. I read somewhere but cannot find where that the Sandybridge memory management software cannot deal with the caching automatically using AHCI only Raid. Am I at a disavantage being on AHCI that I am not aware of? I do not use RAID for M or S.

The mSATA port is on the bottom of the machine, not under the keyboard.

Windows 7 should automatically disable auto defrag with an SSD installed. (It may not be able to tell that the drive is an SSD if you are not using AHCI.) It will also disable some other features, like superfetch and ReadyBoost, since they don't help with an SSD. (Not sure if ReadyBoost can still be used to cache files from other drives.)

If you're using an SSD, you should have the BIOS set to AHCI (not ATA) so that the TRIM command can be used. I understand that if you have the Intel Rapid Storage drivers installed, you can have the BIOS set to RAID and still get the benefit as long as the SSD is not part of a RAID volume. Still, I don't see any reason to choose RAID over AHCI if you aren't actually using a RAID volume (or plan to use one soon). I'm not aware of any memory caching issues.
