M6600 Owners Thread

Thanks guys. Can someone other than me see if they can get an IPS configured on Dell's site for the m6600?

It's bugging more than i thought it would that I did not get it.

 

There are many ways on the Dell website to configure an M6600.

On the webpages that contain discounts (ranging roughly from $619 to $817), the configurations are already set (with some options opens and other not), as the discounts apply to systems that are configured in certain ways.

If you configure an M6600 from a webpage with no discounts, it literally starts from scratch and leaves all configuration options open.

I certainly do not understand how the Dell website works, though I find that I can easily configure an M6600 with the IPS display (just no through all of the discount starting points).

The right sales rep might know how to change certain configurations, though many sales reps do not.

LGD02DA display for the M6600 & PM800?

Two Questions:

1) I received my M6600 this week (brand new, through Small Business).

It shipped with a Dell PremierColor program installed.

This program indicates that my display ID is: LGD02DA

This program also (incorrectly) indicates that my display is an M4600.

This program also indicates that the manufacture date for my display is 2010. (In contrast, I checked and the manufacture date for my AC adapter, for instance, is November, 2011.)

Does anyone have any comment/experience/know of whether this is a good display?

I have not yet had time to set up all my serious programs yet. For now, there are no serious problems, though on all my attempted settings the display seems a bit washed out (dull colors, poor contrasts, etc).

2) Second question:

I now regret that I did not order my system with the MSATA PM800. It is clear both that Dell does not currently sell this part as any sort of upgrade and that Samsung does not sell it to consumers.

Does anyone know whether there is any way/chance for me to order from Dell a new MSATA 128GB (PM800) from Dell? Could getting the right customer service rep. do the trick? Is there anyway?

I know how to do it -- that is not it. You literally cannot do it because Dell's configurator throws up an error that you cannot correct. Nor can the phone sales reps right now. But it has been this way for about a month.

If someone has found a way to beat the idiocy of their online configurator is what I am asking -- I am really hoping its my stupidity and not Dell's website programmers. They say the issue is with their mgmt but given its been this way for the past 1 - 2 months I am not holding my breath and asking how folks on this community who have gotten IPSs have gotten around the issue with the online configuration tool..

 

Let me check the other starting points with no discounts (if I can find it) -- that's a good idea.

 

You were right -- thanks much if I go to the Medium or Large Enterprise site (instead of the Small Business site which has the page with the discounts) I can configure it with the IPS monitor without the error. Help much appreciated. Now I have to negotiate a discount on a much higher bill 0_0! Thx much.

 

1. That is just the system hardware ID for the LG panel - LP173WF1, which is the most common LCD panel for these systems. It is not the greatest, but it is also far from being the worse. I am not sure why it would read "M4600". Could be a driver or BIOS hickup. Disregard the manufacture date listed for the LCD panel since most are simply left unprogrammed and the default is the year of the controller chip, nothing more. The actual manufacturer date for the panel can be seen on the factory sticker attached to the rear of the LCD panel if you ever remove it from the system.

2. Something like THIS will work fine in the M6600 mSATA slot and cost a lot less than what Dell would want directly.

Anybody know if we get a better keyboard than what is supplied by Dell?

For example can the Keyboard from the m6500 be made to fit on here? I want something like the thinkpad board though I know not much is close to that.

 

Nope you can't. The M6600 uses a slightly different layout than the M6400/M6500 keyboards. In fact the M6600 keyboard is the same keyboard used in some current generation Dell Latitude models.

The thing is I actually like the M6600 keyboard over the M6500. The rubber texture makes typing even more comfortable and you get more grip over the shine-vulnerable plastic the M6400/M6500 uses.

 

Do you have the backlit kb? If not, most seem to prefer it.
