Thanks - but I don't quite get you about the thermal pad on the bios chip; is it cooled by the same heatsink as the CPU?

Why reformat it? It comes ready to use.

    1. The BIOS is the latest.

    2. Go to intel.com and locate download chipset drivers and auto-scan your system for recommended updates.

    3. Manually download the "Dell Client System Update". Verify if the version before install. ps - driver versioning is confusing.

    4. Download the n-Trig drivers (for the Touch Screen with Stylus LCD) - The ones from Dell website are always out dated.

Call Dell and convince them to change you a new heat-sink with the factory applied thermal paste. Unless you can apply a thermal paste robotically with precision, zero air bubbles, position of the paste to be the best place after locking the CPU pins, x-ray and infra red eyes to see how the paste have moved after the self application of own thermal paste - then only you can do it yourself. Else..... get the factory applied version from the heat-sink.

This is not a cooler master desktop pc casing with desktop cpu. Don't over engineer something. It's marketing gimmick created by these thermal paste companies. Unless you have the features above with your eyes and a robotic thermal paste application system which can move at 0.001mm precision, you can forget it, no matter how great it says the 3rd party paste is.

Take note, the more parts you change and get replaced with Dell, this means the more refurbished parts your brand new m6660 will have.

You will be paying a brand new machine with new parts for the time wasted and also end up with a used parts (maybe used for 3-12 months, depends on your luck). This means your next breakdown due to wear and tear will be sooner.

    Practice practical engineering.

I actually dont think dell paste for cpus are good at all. i think they are BAD.

get MX4 or AS5 and just repaste yourself. I lost a good 10c by repasting.

I think that's the chipset, not the bios.

That's the premier color app. I don't have the IPS screen so I just disabled it entirely as it jacked the contrast WAY up.

Sorry, I don't know why I said bios chip. I meant to say chipset chip. Which I know is just as non specific. Just meant to say the heatsink cools the cpu and another chip on the motherboard.

Was a very long day and my brain was fried when I posted that. Will fill in proper details tomorrow.

    Doh.

That is pretty much overboard. You just need someone that works on computers and laptops every day to replace the thermal paste and seat the heatsink.

Yes, it would be nice to have robots from the future install your new heatsink. Just not likely to happen.
