The m6600 (Asia) uses ALPS where the m6500 uses Synaptics. You can verify by going into "Windows Device Manager".

    1. Right click at "My Computer"

    2. Select "Properties" and the "Device Manager"

    3. On the "Device Manager" tree. Go to "Mice and Other Inputs" and expand it. (view attached screen capture below)

    4. Click "Properties" on Dell Touchpad. It will show the "Manufacturer".

So far the ALPS works fine on my m6600 except the smooth scrolling with inertia experience is not like the Apple experience. Wait for Windows 8.

There is no fix that I know of on the smooth scrolling. The m6500 touchpad was the pinch zoom constantly failed (using the dell's modified synaptics driver on my touchpad with the jog shuttle feature. It will light up to show the jog shuttle function and also 3 more buttons lighted up which you can preset function keys to it. I think it's more of a convenience for multimedia app integration). Fixed it by removing the defective Dell custom synaptics drivers and replaced it with original Synaptics drivers found at Drivers | Synaptics

What you get after this is the Scrybe functionality but you lose the jog shuttle and programmable virtual touchpad keys on the m6500. The pinch zoom also works great in Firefox (All versions) after replacing the drivers.

I didn't replace the m6600 Dell Touchpad driver with the ALPS drivers, their website was too confusing. Not sure which one to use. I suggest don't. :)

I got my own MX4 thermal-paste for my m6500 when dell forgot to ship me the new heat-sink, when they replaced my mother board, where the dell tech assumed it should work with the old paste from existing heat-sink scraped off and plastered onto the CPU. Which obviously failed in 5 minutes. Then tried MX4, with the old paste completely cleaned off. Assuming each time the CPU is take out, the old thermal paste must be removed and applied with new. Which also failed with a brand new tube of MX4.

Still over heat issue, machine shuts down in less than 5 minutes. I'm just not bothered to do it a few times with loads of time wasted waiting for dell onsite technician. Complained to dell to have to my CPU replaced (with a new one) and a new heat-sink.

From now on, I will try only factory thermal-paste with new heat-sink. MX4 or anything after market is when the machine's warranty has expired. Less = More protection for thermal paste.

I kind of prefer the 16x10 screen than the 16x9. A bigger screen in m6600 with lower resolution.

I am still working on customising one myself - more of a docking station adaptop with proper cooling vents. Haven't sat down to draw it in 3D.

    1. It should work with the Dell Advanced Port Replicator.
    2. The machine will angle better or maybe with 3 step angle adjustment.
    3. Fit 3x120mm silent fan (adjustable speed) at the base (vented aluminium) - where the docking station & laptop rests at an adjustable angle.
    4. 2xturbo fans for suction at the rear m6600 vents to get the heat out fast!

The monitor stand is easy to find. Any adjustable LCD arm stand that supports over 30" would be sufficient.

Using the same rig (EX1 and M6600); the Kata BP-502 is perfect and you can add the KATA INSERTROLLEY for easier walking.

I got used to 16x9 by now. Though I must admit that for productivity 16:10 just "feels" better.
