Same here with me. Almost broke my back and end up with a shoulder plate ache for a week last year.

Waiting for the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook. Trolley backpack can fit another Ultrabook easy.

My Dell Precision M6600 with ATI FirePro M8900 was delivered on 8th of August 2011.
First I had a ChiMei screen which I had claimed. Luckily I got an AU Optronics replacement.
    Motherboard revision is A00.
There arent any BIOS settings for switchable graphics solution.

Mine was brand new a month ago and I don't have this feature. Make sure they don't mean that the card can throttle its clocks.

The touchscreen is not truly AG due to the touchscreen itself sitting in front of the LCD panel. Mine is fairly glossy.

they think its all over... it is now.

    Bought one.

I decided that as you guys have them and can't see graphics switching I trust you over the sales/tech team. Also I kind of had an "oh its only money" moment and went all out...

    i7-2860QM (2.5Ghz, 8MB Cache)
    8GB
1920x1080p FHD screen (non multi-touch as I *hate* glossy screens)
    750GB 7.2k disk
    DVD RW
    Quadro 4000M <-- OUCH... £600 extra?!!
    Backlit Keyboard
    Fingerprint reader
    Smartcard reader
Internal Mobile Broadband Card - Dell 5500 (had to inform the sales guy this even existed as it isn't on their sheets, but it is a dealbreaker for me. Luckily he found it)

I haggled and got it for £2200 inc VAT and delivery. I'm happy with that.

    Upon arrival I plan to:

    1) Install 24GB RAM (I have it on my desk atm)
    2) Install my HyperX 120GB SATA3 SSD in the primary slot for OS
    3) Install my Kingston V+200 480GB SATA3 SSD in secondary slot
    4) Remove the Optical drive and put a third disk caddy in there for the 750GB spindle drive that comes as default.
    5) Put my 64GB SD card in for ISO image storage.

This is going to be a monster.

Can't wait. I just hope the build quality is up to it and there isn't any CPU throttling... because that is why I'm send the Lenovo back and I won't be afraid to do the same thing with this.

    Have to wait and see.

Cheers for the help today chaps.

Installing 24GB RAM (8GB x 3) means you will need to open up the keyboard. Get Dell tech to do it, it's ok as long they don't open up the processor & GPU.

Not sure if this will be dual channel or single channel if you fit 3 x 8GB.

Could be something plugged in to your docking station ports ?

    Else ....

    1. Remove it at device manager,

    2. Reboot, check Device Mgr (don't plug in anything) and do a scan new hardware.

Hmmm, one of the drivers got corrupted and not recognized by Windows. You have something attached to the PC Express slot? N-Trig Drivers, USB3.0 Renesas Drivers, or O2Micro SD Card Reader Drivers ? I would trace back what was done or installed or removed that caused the COM's error.

    Room temp with air-con - 25'c - 26'c at night.

38'c - 40'c (Idle) From Cold boot to 5 min after boot just to be fair.

I have loaded my CPU (65'c) and GPU (75'c). Quite subjective here. Humidity, hot air from around, the types of stress on the GPU and CPU on the different cores. The m6600 so far has a better cooling than the m6500. Crossing my fingers.

Old m6500 FX3800, went berzerk with just normal load one day, then the next day following on, I will get blackscreen lockup. I still do get the keyboard to respond - capslock test. Just nothing displayed. Shutdown, and wait 3-5 sec, the system will be ok.

Dell changed a new GPU for me, and everything worked fine after than, then the Dell nightmare starts the next morning after 10 minutes. CPU overheat cut off, got the new GPU burned agained, etc...etc. Usual Dell routine.

Let me clarify a few items.

The Precision M4600 and M6600 do not support AMD switchable GFX with the Intel GPU. This is not a BIOS thing, it is an internal mechanical design item and we made the decision to go with NVIDIA Optimus. This is not an item I'm "changing/fixing" later, there is nothing to fix.

Another thing to clear up is that there is no change to the touch panel. These have been the same since the products launched and they are NOT AG panels, they are glossy. All other panels on the M4600 & M6600 are AG.

    Tks
