    Great news!
    Thank You, Bokeh.

Yesterday it was still not available.

One confusing... If you select "PremierColor IPS RGB" on the Dell site, you get the error (Do not depend on the choice of video card):
I have not found where to fix it.

ho ho - my magic fn-brightness BIOS fix has stopped working...

I might go back to the stock Dell Intel graphics drivers and see if that helps, seems to have positive results with other people.

On another note, is it me or is the sound driver a little flakey, keep getting little squeaks and beeps through the headphones when I do something... might uninstall it and run with the Win7 stock driver... anyone know if the microphone array is still useable without the Dell driver?

Great news. Does anybody know if different GPU coolers were used on the M6600? E.g. I have a 3000M with the IPS screen and get the AMD card separately - since they are both MXM 3.0b cards and seem to have the same TDP, I'd expect that they use the same cooler, but need a confirmation.

Also, were there any hardware changes to make the M8900 available with the IPS screen or was it the reason for delays something simple like e.g. verification tests?

There is a bit of work involved in swapping out one of the NVIDIA cards for the ATi (or vice versa). The details are earlier in this thread, I don't have a link but I think it had to do with the cooler attachment not being quite the same.

With the IPS screen involved, you may want to wait for someone to actually get one with the ATi card and check it out before making such a swap. With the NVIDIA card, the IPS has a separate board that is connected between the graphics card and the screen --- no telling if the same board is used with the ATi card or not?

Off topic but Are u sure u are getting full use out of your RAM setup considering you are mixing sizes and Im guessing latency

I thought that all the sticks should ideally match in size and latency for peak performance So have u had any issues with that

My M6600 had a dead pixel on the Chi Mei screen and the case was warped around the lcd release button. I called Dell and they asked me to send it in. I checked my status and it states:

Unit has been repaired and shipped back to your address
2/23/2012 6:29:55 PM CST : Your product has been shipped to your return address.
Certified Technicians performed diagnostics on the defective unit and actions can consist of repair to connections, reseating components, or replacement of defective parts which are listed below :
    HC9GK - Display

I checked on the Internet and the HC9GK is a Chi Mei panel. I thought they were using these panels any longer. I hope it just states that the HC9GK panel was replaced and it not telling me what panel replaced it.

theres no orange and i agree the brown is not ideal but look at bokehs review thread it does a great job of analyzing the color and many other aspects including real world battery life

I know you can disable optimus or igp but im not sure about the inverse

Well, I bought the M6600 last November from EBay. I paid around $1200. It has the i7, 128GB SSD, 750GB hard drive, ATI FirePro 8900m, 8GB RAM. I really liked it. My son had a Alienware m17x R2 that he sold. He started using my M6600 and fell in love with it because it played all the games he played and wasn't flashy. So, he got the M6600 and I got the cash from his m17x sale. I was going to buy another M6600, but the EliteBook 8760w attracted my attention. I really like the styling and look of the 8760w. I found one on EBay that came with a i7, 16GB RAM, 1080p, 256GB SSD, 750GB hard drive, nVidia Quadro 3000m. so I bought it.

    Dell Precision M6600

    Pros:
    • Better Keyboard
    • Better Cooling (2 fans)
    • More Powerful Graphics Card (ATI FirePro 8900m)

    Cons:
    • Sort of Bland Styling
    • Doesn't feel as sturdy as the 8760w

    HP EliteBook 8760w

    Pros:
    • Attractive Styling
    • Feels Better built (materials)
    • Trackpad(about as close to the MacBook Pro as I have ever used)

    Cons:
    • One Cooling Fan
    • Keyboard
    • Less Powerful Graphics Card

These are my opinions. I like the keyboard on the Dell better, but that is about it. The look and feel of the 8760 is better than the M6600 in my opinion. The 8760w materials seem stronger, the M6600 seem more plastic. Don't get me wrong, I would be happy with either laptop, but if I had to choose, I would pick the HP EliteBook 8760w.
