Not trying to criticize, but I'm throwing this out there for anyone else considering the M6600 and the 8760w. I looked into the HP a while back and noticed that it is missing a few technologies present in the M6600, like TPM, mSATA, and Optimus.

True. To some people those technologies matter, to me I could really care less. I don't need the latest and greatest. I always use my computer connected to a power supply. I don't use my 8760w in a business environment. I just like the look and styling if the 8760w.

I wonder about the true cause of the flickering LG panel. My two M6600 that had the problem both had it intermittently. I never saw the problem with the AUO panel. One day the problem was there, the next it looked normal. It is always at the lowest 3 brightness settings too. When it had it, it was like an electrical short, almost like a bad ballast in a fluorescent light. It is very obvious to the naked eye from many feet away. One time , the display completely blinked out. Could it be some sort of EMI going on? Anything from cordless phones, to those new smart meters ? Or how about those days when the solar flares are bad? Sounds kinda nutty, I know.

I appreciate the detailed response and the keyboard comment is interesting cuz many people have complained about the m6600 keyboard so the 8760 keyboard must really be lacking

Don’t accept the CMO panel in any circumstance if your unit comes back with one then demand it be swapped for LG or best bet AUO I know you cant specify which manufacturer you get but the CMO is not a premium panel and is not acceptable especially if playing visually intensive games

Considering this is a m6600 thread I must give it some credit cuz I have tirelessly compared the m6600 and 8760w and IMO the m6600 comes out on top for my use

I need raw power at the expense of flashy looks and I think the m6600 shines in this area for example I can get it from the factory with 1600 ram and over 1tb of SSD storage 2x 512 SSD + 256g msata Optimus is not a big deal for me but the Touch Screen is a great feature for me as I do Architectural 3d work Rendering and Graphic Design The extra cooling capacity is also a must as I typically max out my overclocked cpu for 20 plus hours when doing a highly detailed rendering All of these aspects leave me with the m6600 for professional use

No, the 8760w keyboard is good. It is the chiclet style. I prefer the traditional style keyboard. I realize that the M6600 is more powerful and has better technology than the 8760w. I would be extremely happy with either. I just prefer the looks of the 8760w. All this is my opinion and I'm by no means an expert.

I went back to the Dell provided Intel graphics driver on both machines. Running with the latest nvidia release (295). The machine is as stable as it's ever been. No hibernation issues. No flickering on the LG panel, Optimus is awesome when working. 8hrs on battery yesterday doing general computer tasks mixed with a few nvidia gpu tests. Seriously!

edit: and not to mention the fn brightness functionality is bullet proof now.

I have my machines plugged into a stereo receiver through the headphones jack and I'm not experiencing any pops or clicks, however, headphones are much more sensitive to that kind of electrical interference in my experiences.

Which audio driver would you replace? The IDT 92HDxxx HD Audio driver? I'm using revision # r297613.

Are the audio aspects of the nvidia and intel graphics drivers for HDMI then?
... and IDT drivers for the system audio devices like headphones, speakers and microphone?

Also, more than likely totally unrelated....but note that through the Dell webcam software there is an update available, but you have to use the actual "?" (question mark) button on the top right corner of the program to get to the update. It's made my webcam /mic more stable as well. It used to hang using video chat in Google if i didn't exit the plug-in before the other user. Not no more!

Good news. I'm not crazy, or at least not totally .

I spoke with a engineer in the Dell lab in Austin. They have my M6600 there with the LG panel. They had been trying for days to get it to flicker, but saw nothing unusual. The only note he had on it was a complaint of vertical and horizontal lines. Something I never saw or mentioned at all. So, I told him to lower the brightness to the lowest three settings , and he easily saw the flickering with the naked eye. I also sent him the LG spec sheet that mentions flickering. He is contacting LG next week. I deserve a Nobel peace prize I think, I hear they are easy to get.::eek:

It's all worthy speculation, but I can tell you, I have two machines as well, one with AU and one with the LG screen. The LG hasn't flickered in a long time (I'm testing it as I type in the lowest most offensive brightness setting). I think it is software, as wacky as a speculation as that might be.

What drivers are you using and do you have the ati or nvidia solution?

Also note, I have re-installed the os and all the dell drivers myself according to the re-image guide. The factory image sent out from Dell was... well, not real world worthy. If you have the time, i highly recommend it. Good luck with the engineers and i hope your m6600 comes back flicker free.

So Dell got you to send your machine to their headquarters to see what the issue with your screen was? You don't say "a" Dell lab, you say "the" Dell lab.

I believe what you are saying, just seems like Dell is going through a lot of trouble for the issue you were seeing.
