When first powered on, the M6600 BIOS will see the PSU as a 90w and reduce the system draw automatically before any moderate load is placed on it.

You can find the slim PA-3E 90w PSU on eBay. Here is one example: NEW Genuine Dell 90w PA3E PA-3E Slim AC Power Adapter | eBay

As I continued angering myself over the replacement chi mei lcd I got, I did my usual once in a 3 month checking of us dell m6600 configuration site.

Is there a new ips screen? Compatible with m8900?

The configurator lets m8900 and the ips screen together. Never before did this happen. And the 3g modem is still forbidden with ips screen so this might be not a mistake.

I'm just asking because if there is an ips screen which can be used with my M8900 I will order it as a part. To hell with chi mei torture :)

Maybe my 3g modem wont work properly with that ips screen, but now I can handle it with my tab 7.7 as wlan hotspot.

    Yes.
The program you are looking for is called "Dell System Manager".
It is possible to control the brightness level from 0% to 25% to 50% to 75% up to 100% as well as the time for keyboard backlight from 5sec to 10sec to 30sec to 1min up to 5min.

Yes, this configuration has been available for a while. If you want to make the swap yourself, you'll need to order not only the screen, but a thicker top panel/bezel to put it in, an interposer board, and two video cables. The parts list is available somewhere earlier in this thread. (And I don't know if the same parts that work with the NVIDIA card work with the ATi — I'm not sure if anyone has opened up the ATi configuration and reported the parts here yet.)

This is absolutely cool, I will contact my dell source. Hopefully it will not cost arm and leg (only arm :) ).

Hi everybody, I'm not a m6600 owner but rather a wannabe owner.
I was researching the web and I found quite a lot of answers and info in this forum. I have a couple of burning questions that came out mainly by reading the thread and I hoped that someone could clarify.

    1 screen.
I've read about this not so good chi mei lcd, now if I buy a m6600 specced "ultrasharp", can I be sure that I won't get one of those displays?

    2 mini ssd card.
    can I boot from here?

    3 2nd hard drive.
do all the models have a 2nd hard drive slot? I am not concerned about RAID.

I am uk based bytheway, not sure if it matters in anyway....

    many thanks

    1. I think Dell Mano G (Dont know if I remember his name right) said that no more Chi mei will be built in. In my case it was a refurbished chi mei I got as a "repair". It is a big shame, but I do not know any case lately when a new M6600 came with a Chi Mei. But you can be only sure if you order and ips.
    2. from msata ssd if you mean that you can boot (I do that since august, it does a good job)
    3. I think all model's have 1 msata and 2 2,5 hdd slot, but I'm not 100% sure.

    1) They are not *supposed* to be shipping the ChiMei screens anymore. It is LG or AUO. LG has flicker issues. Specify AUO and provide the part number.

    2) yes

    3) yes. technically you can put a third in if you remove the DVD drive. I have done this, it runs at SATA2

    4) I'm in UK as well.
