Yes, we see wear to the plastic trim probably because it's painted instead of molded color. The M6300 wears too, but I'm pretty sure its plastic trim is molded color, so you don't see it as much.

The M6300 is a clunkier design. Here's a comparison for ya, if you are old enough to remember these movies, the M6300 is "Forbidden Planet", and the M6600 is "2001"

I mentioned the latch design because it's more secure on our M6300 compared to the M6600. One of our new M6600 had a very large gap on each side of the lid when closed. It bowed in on the center and out on the edges. Someone else mentioned this same issue earlier in the thread.

M4400 lease expired and need to purchase new laptop, went this time with Outlet M6600, laptop arrives Monday and after reading this thread for a while I'm concerned about a few things that maybe you guys can help answering.
Purchase was outlet Scratch and Dent and comes with 2860QM and the following screen description
17.3 Inch UltraSharp FHD(1920x1080) Wide View Anti-Glare LED-backlit with Premium Panel
    - Is it possible the screen is a Chi Mei or LG? in that case is there a procedure or line to ask Dell for replacement?
    - If there's a dead pixel will Dell replace the screen?
    - Is it better to upgrade to Pro Support for these matters or not really needed?

Maybe someone can help me out to figure what to do or if it's worth it before opening the box on Monday

    Thanks in advance

What does your actual invoice say regarding the screen? You should get an LG or AUO.

Yes, in most cases it is covered by the premium panel guarantee.

If the price is reasonable, Yes. This way, you get USA based support and quick professional action to any issue.

Hi guys. Ive been reading this thread for a while but now I really need your opinion.

I cant decide between a specific hp 8760w and dell M6600. Both configurations cost the same.
    Specs:

    DELL M6600:
    2760QM
    1920x1080 LCD (non-IPS)
    8 Gb 1600 MHz (2x4Gb)
    FirePro 8900M
    128Gb SATA III SSD
    750Gb hard drive
    DVD drive
    97 Whr battery
    bluetooth,webcam,...

    HP 8760W:
    2670QM
    1920 x 1080 IPS dreamcolor LCD
    8 Gb 1333 mhz (2x4gb)
    Quadro 4000M
    750 Gb hard drive
    Blue-ray drive
    75Whr battery
    bluetooth,webcam,...

I'll be using it for AutoCAD, Allplan, Cinema 4D, 3ds max, photoshop and occasional gaming. Which would be a better buy/choice for me ?

I'm kinda concerned about the HP's single fan cooling opposed to Dell's dual fan design. Is there any difference when running CPU and GPU heavy apps?
I've also heard that Nvidia's CUDA and those fancy drivers aren't of much use on Allplan and cimena 4D (?) .

    Thanks for your help

Or in RAID, if you plan to use it.

    With best regards,
    Alex.

The M6600 is an overall better value and will handle all your tasks with ease. I like having the CUDA cores for my Adobe CS5.5 work, but the AMD is a very strong contender. The cooling in the Dell is also better and the post sales support from Dell is much better than HP. With the Dell, you can always change the video card, CPU, and memory in the future with little effort and without voiding the warranty (if done properly), which may not be the case with HP regardless of your skills.

RAID is certainly not the best decision in case of using 2 and more SSDs!
I use 3 SSDs in my Dell Precision M6600 in AHCI mode:
    Samsung SSD 830 Series 256GB
    Intel Postville G2 SSD 160GB
MyDigitalSSD Bullet Proof mSATA SSD 128GB
