    A moot point. ;)
    If you use a reliable ssd (Intel for example), You can use RAID with a high degree of reliability.
    In addition, there is a RAID5. In this case, you can use 3 or 4 drives (+mSATA, +Instead of an optical drive) with 100% reliability.

    With best regards,
    Alex.

    Yes of course.

    I do. ;)

    What about TRIM support on a RAID composite?

    And is there also TRIM? ;)

    I don't want to be the killjoy, but in my opinion/case a non Raid composite consisting of SSDs is the better/safer and the more reliable choice.
    However, I respect each others opinion and therefore we are in this forum. [IMG]

    Bokeh (and others, too),

    Do you have experience with using an M6600 to feed a Dell U3011 (or equivalent 2560 x 1600 resolution monitor) via DisplayPort for business--non-gaming--applications?

    How does this compare with the U2711 at 2560 x 1440 resolution?

    Thanks. I look forward to your comments.

    Scott, thanks for your reply.

    Three more questions:
    I was also wondering, is Dell still installing faulty Chi-Mei panels in M6600 ?
    Is there any way I could specify AUO when ordering it with my dealer ?
    Which 2 RAM slots will be left empty (under the keyboard or on the back) for later upgrades ?

    1) They are not supposed to be still installing the faulty Chi-Mei panels but who can be 100% sure with these large companies.

    2) You can ask, and point out that you are already aware of the faulty Chi-Mei screens, and definitely want something else such as AUO. Just be honest with him/her and say that one of the first things you will be doing when you get the machine is to check what screen it has and if it is Chi-Mei you will be sending it right back.

    3) Good question. I cannot remember. From memory it is the two under the back Dell fills first but I may be wrong. Remember you will need a quad core CPU to have use of all four RAM slots anyway. Do not be put off, or daunted by removing the keyboard it really is very, very simple.

    Yes, Dell will fill the RAM slots on the very bottom and leave the keyboard slots empty. The slots under teh back are used by the system to POST so you need RAM in those slots to boot up.

    From my experiences with Dell over the past year when ordering numerous M6600 systems:

    A. As of last August/September (2011), Dell is not allocating any CMO panels to the Precision line. You will get either an LG LP173WF1 (most likely) or an AUO B173HW01 v.5 (if you're lucky). The easiest way to see what panel you will receive is to look at the system invoice after it has been produced and shipped. You should see one of the two below:

    WTPWR Module,Liquid Crystal Display,17.3FHD,White Light Emitted Diode,Legend,M6600

    H8D3K Liquid Crystal Display, 17.3FHD, White Light Emitted Diode, Low Voltage Differential Signaling, AG, Z, Au Optronics Corp

    WTPWR = LG
    H83DK = AUO

    B. You can only request a specific part # replacement after the main system has been received and the part in question is faulty/unacceptable. Even then, the agent can only forward the request to the parts supervisor in the shipping warehouse and state in the order paperwork, "Do not send substitute or compatible part(s)".

    C. As mentioned, the lower base assembly accessed memory slots will be the two populated with the memory if your system ships with two modules only. The memory slots under the keyboard are for the third and fourth memory modules if/when needed.
