    If you are comfortable with opening your beast, I'd recommend re-seating all cables and connectors (even the CPU/GPU/wifi/etc). I'd use an anti-static wrist strap/mat. Then reset the BIOS and try booting again. Otherwise, just wait for Dell to fix it.

    If you don't break anything in the process the warranty will remain intact, so don't worry. I'd always try my best before letting tech guys touch my beasts. )

    Just bought a refurbished Dell Precision M6600 with the following specs:
    Got it for £959.99 inc VAT and Delivery which is decent for a workstation machine. Going to strip out the CPU and put a i7-2720QM I have spare as well as upgrading the RAMs, new SSD and Intel Wireless Card.

    I bought this system as a gift for my sister, she currently has a Latitude E6410 I passed to her not long ago and noticed she's trying to play games such as Diablo III, League of Legends and Starcraft II which is always going to end quite disastrously on a Intel HD GPU! Was really close to buying a brand new Alienware M17x but not only the cost was a bit prohibitive, I wasn't sure if she was going to like the glossy screen coming from the Latitude. Plus I tend to be assured of business build quality which went to the M6600 favour.

    Can anyone help on what AMD graphics drivers I should use for the M8900 card purely for gaming? Plus is it necessary to flash the vBIOS on card to make it operate like a 6970M or would just the Radeon drivers do?

    @Hearst,

    I'm not too sure you can upgrade the CPU in your machine. If it came with a dual core CPU, you may have a different mobo, which doesn't support quad core CPU's. Check if you have 4 ram slots, that would answer the question.

    Ah I didn't know Dell issue separate mobo's for Dual Cores and Quad Cores. I mean I did swap out a dual core CPU on a Vostro 3750 with the Quad Core i7 and that worked fine but I have a check when it comes, thanks for letting me know.

    I'm not sure. I know that HP and Lenovo used to have 2 mobo revisions, one for duals and one for quads. I just tried configuring a new system with a dual core and it doesn't let me select more than 16GB ram, says something about incompatibility between 4 dimms and 2-core CPUs. So, if Dell would leave the system with 4 slots for dual core configs, it would create a lot of confusion, cause ppl would try populating all of the slots.
