The easiest way to confirm without taking the display apart is using HWiNFO to see what the monitor reads as. Below is what it should look like.

Likewise, a M6600 backlit keyboard pic is below. The keys have four brightness settings or OFF. The screen brightness is next to this adjustement and both only require you press Fn + the key desired.

Glad to read it is working for you now. Oh yeah, I see the same on my TechNet and MSDN accounts. More stuff to play with... ugh...

You guy's were right, I set it for 1920x1080, and changed the text/items larger. Works great. Wish it had more size settings though. :D

Scott, thanks a bunch for that. I will definitely have my friend go through these steps and get back with the results. Hope everything would be alright and I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of returning/replacing the system, and that too by sitting at the opposite side of the globe. Thanks.

Got a question, is the M6600 optical drive shorter than normal 9.5mm drive? Or would any of the ebay 9.5mm work?

Any 9.5mm tall drive will work. The depth is standard.

One more question about the keyboard backlighting. Is this the only way to control it or does it also have enable/disable from the BIOS setup? Like I am just assuming but could it be the case that if it's disabled from the BIOS it won't work from the key combination you mentioned?

Yes, there is a BIOS settings page. Note: this page is disabled/not visable if no backlit KB is detected.
