Hello, I was wondering if it was possible to get 1366x768 resolution on the 17.3" 1920x1080 LCD? I notice in the resolution settings there are only 4 settings! I have the M8900 ATI card. I would like to get the pixles per inch less then 100 for eye strain reasons doing work. Would flashing the card to a 6970m and using the normal catylist drivers work? Or is the LCD not made to use that resolution? I'm starting to think maybe I should trade for a 4000m, for optimus and display reasons.

With ANY LCD, always work with its native resolution!

If you need bigger characters, change the font size from 100 to 125% (which is the default for these screens, BTW).

Yeah, I tried that, But I will have to play with all the settings again. I miss having the sharpness of the windows and icons. I think changing the res or character size blurs it. What is the reason for leaving it at the native res?

It's changing the native resolution of an LCD that blurs everything - try that, you will see yourself :)

On the other hand, using bigger fonts shouldn't result in blurring...

Like MoldCAD said. If you run lower than the native resolution, things on the screen will be bigger but everything will be blurry. You're effectively throwing away some of the detail that your screen can provide, as well.

If you increase the DPI scaling, graphical elements may get blurry but text and window elements should remain crisp, just larger.

(Programs can be made to be DPI-aware and present higher resolution assets when the DPI scaling has been turned up. Unfortunately, not many apps do this currently, but hopefully that situation will improve as high-DPI screens become more common over the next few years.)

    HELP!!!

As today was the day Windows 2012 was available I've downloaded it, prepped a USB boot disk, booted up my M6600 with said USB boot disk and started to install Windows 2012 - then my problems began.

My M6600 has 2x256GB SSDs in non-RAID, during my Windows 2012 install above I delete all partitions on each disks then created a new partition on disk 0 and installed Windows 2012 there. At the end of the install process when the machine reboots what I see (after the initial boot screen and disk details screen) is a blinking cursor at the top left of the screen and notice that the disk light on the top left of the keyboard is constantly on.

My fear is that I've not really understood my disk config and have deleted partitions that should have been left alone (for booting properly).

    Anyone offer any assistance?

    You mean Windows 8?

Regardless... STOP, DO NOT PASS GO... AND DO NOT COLLECT $200 :p

Before you do anything, you need to check your BIOS and confirm that the AHCI setting is selected for the HDD SATA mode.

Now, I would suggest removing the NON-OS 256GB SSD just to keep things simple on your end. You can add it back later once you confirm all is well with the OS install.

When this is all done, go head a reboot to the USB flash drive and reinstall everything again; making sure you go in to the WinPE advanced menu, delete and then create the desired partition(s) prior to executing the OS install.

Once the install begins, just let it do its thing and you should not have any more boot issues.

In the future, you may want to run a partition program like AOMEI Partition Assistant 5.1 Home Edition [FREE] to insure you can see and delete all the needed partitions on your drive that Windows Disk Management may miss or cannot change.

    Hope this helps -
    Scott

How to identify and differentiate an RGB screen from a normal one, especially for someone who's not very familiar with all these screen types. I have ordered an m6600 from ebay with the RGB screen and my friend in the US will be getting it in a day or two. I need to get everything checked (instructions on phone/chat) before the machine comes to me in Asia. Is there any apparent/physical hint/label on the screen to tell the difference or any specific mention in the device manager? Also, it has the backlit keyboard option but I want to know if the backlighting is turned on by default or not, how to get it on/off from the system? Please help me on this and any other suggestions or points to be checked regarding the screen and in general?

    Thanks !

    Hi Scott,

    Thanks for the reply

No I mean Windows 2012 Server (was released to MSDN and TechNet subscribers today). I received the laptop in June and had Windows 7 on it. I had installed Windows 8 RP on the second drive and was able to dual-boot into either Windows 7 or Windows 8 RP. Tonight I deleted everything to install Windows 2012 Server and now I'm stuck.

I looked at the BIOS (revision A07) for the SATA Operation and it was set to RAID On, I've set it to AHCI as you suggest and have tried to re-install again and this time it's booting into the Windows 2012 (hooray).

    Cheers,

    Colin
