If the card already is mounted in a system it should have a xbrace on it so you are good to go. The only thing thing that could be different is the screws.

Yes, it will work and is plug-n-play. I know first hand. ;)

Almost a year ago I found out to my frustration that the eSATA port (on both the M6600 and dock) do not see my WD Studio II 2-disk enclosure. I asked both companies' Support about that, but of course they blame each other (Dell's advise is to buy a Dell enclosure :)). They mentioned something about port multiplier not being supported...

Now, I'm about to buy the cheap Welland ME-580J enclosure, but would like to make sure it'll work with my M6600 first. Unlike the WD, it supports JBOD and single disk - which I guess suggests it does support port multiplication... However, the below excerpt from their manual makes me worry, as it suggests that without a proper port multiplier support on the host computer, it might not work at all:

    "1.
Why I can not see the hard disk in my computer after plugging in eSATA cable?
    A:
eSATA Mode hot plug is related with eSATA host controller. The host controller of your motherboard must support hot plug function.
    2.
Why I can not see the two hard disks in my computer after plugging in eSATA cable in Individual Mode?
    A:
This is about Port Multiplier function of eSATA host controller. The eSATA host controller must support Port Multiplier function then you can see two hard disks after plugging in eSATA cable in Individual Mode.
Notes:To co-work with RAID enclosure, we suggest you to use the south bridge ICH9R motherboard or PCI、PCI-E host cards which supports” Port Multiplier” function.

    Could anyone knowledgeable advise?

I upgraded to Windows 8. I installed all drivers with no issues.
I use the driver bellow for the Fingerprint Reader.

Can anyone tell me now how can I get biometrics to work? I would like to use windows native system.

If you installed Dell's software you should have an app in the start menu called "Control Vault WBF." Run it and enable the Windows Biometric Framework.

Now, in the control panel you should find a new section called "Biometric Devices." (On Windows 8, press WinKey+W and type "biometric" to find it quickly.) Here you should have the option to enroll your fingerprint data for sign-in.

On my M6700, I was able to get it working on Windows 7 but not on Windows 8. On Win8 I get an error message when going to enroll fingerprint data. I've tried on a clean Win8 install and on an upgrade from Win7 where it was working.

    Done.

Unfortunately it doesn't work. In the enrollment process it just fails to store my fingerprints. Well I guess we have to wait for compatible software.

Aaron44126: Do you prefer the WBF or DDP software for Biometric System? I've only used DDP. A few pages back a contributer mentioned taking different finger angles and postures during enrollment and I concur that it helps. I'm asking so that I don't run-off on some fruitless pursuit.

I've actually only tried the WBF. I didn't have any trouble getting it to read properly. (I have the FIPS-compliant reader on the M6700, though, so may be different.)

I think it's a little slow, though. There is a delay of 3-4 seconds before it accepts the scan and logs me in — so it doesn't really save any time over just typing in the password.

Thanks for sharing. I'll stick with DDP and not wander.
One of my accounts takes me straight in and another takes anywhere from 1-3 seconds and fails more often.

I've found from trial and error using DDP enrollment that myriad conditions affect consistency such as freshly washed hands, offset finger angles, posture - sitting vs standing. Varying helps but the number is limited.

I'll mention here that the logon screen behaves differently between a factory imaged and a reimaged machine. With a reimaged machine, if I know I'm going to the last used account I'll tap the enter key before swiping to keep it focused - otherwise the first failure requires that the account name be typed once to regain focus and re-enable the reader. Probably more secure but definitely a pain.

I've been searching the forums and this thread looking for the information I need because I know I saw it here before but now cant seem to find it now that I need it. So sorry for asking a question that's already been answered many times I'm sure, but what brand of RAM should I get for upgrading the M6600? Same question for SSD, I'm looking for a 128 or 256 (that's probably the largest I can afford). My M6600 actually shipped yesterday and they're estimating delivery to be the 17th.
