Yes - I'd also think it's a hardware limitation, and any hopes for some future IRST update "unlocking" PM are in vain...

Yes, I have tried that route (with a similar card) and indeed my WD enclosure does work. But in my video editing workflow, I need availability of Expresscard slot for my SxS cards; also I'd like my RAID enclosures to be connected to the dock station, without too much cards and cables hassle.

Okay, I'm looking at these Solid State Drives right now, the Samsung 830, the ADATA S510, or the Kingston SSDnow V+200

I read (I think it was this thread earlier though may have been somewhere else in the forums) that someone was having trouble with ADATA, something about having to leave a USB flash drive plugged in to get it to work right. And I have no idea if Kingston is a good brand for SSDs.

As for RAM I'm looking at Corsair Vengeance or Komputerbay.

I have no idea if Komputerbay is any good, but they're cheap and reviewed well (though only 21 reviews for this specific RAM). Corsair is a name brand but kinda pricey. If anyone has used Komputerbay RAM and can tell me if it's solid RAM or not please do. Any other suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated. Also right now I've been looking on Amazon mostly for hardware but I did check out tiger direct and newegg, nothing really for cheaper but if anyone knows of a website with better prices please let me know. Want to order soon so that way I can be ready to upgrade my computer once it arrives Monday.

Thanks for the caddy part number. a quick search online reveals prices of 45 dollars for a 3 ounce 20 gage piece of stamped sheet metal that Dell probably pays 50 cents for. I hope that this is not what Dell will be looking to get for it. For that Price I will make my own (I an pretty sure I could make a passable substitute with a piece of sheet metal and my metal break.) I will contract Dell parts tomorrow.

I was the one having trouble with booting and hanging with the Adata. I would get the Samsung 830 or the Crucial M4, both of these work great in the Dell's. I am running the 830 right now and it is perfect. I have moved the Adata to the second sata for storage and it works great as that. No issues. Stay away from any Sandforce controlled SSD's for OS drives! IT's not worth the trouble and they are only a smidge faster. The kingstons are sandforce, don't buy it!!!

The Dell bios or motherboard is at fault, and for some reason the speed or voltage is not correct or comming on at the right time for the SandForce controller. That is just a laymans theory from all the searching I have done. Dell has yet to fix the problem, and I doubt they will.

As for memory, GSkill, kingston, and crucial all work great. Newegg and Amazon ftw. Don't cheap out on some generic memory, the 1333,1600 mem is already cheap as it is :D $36 for 8gb, $75 for 16gb.

What is the problem you are getting? I just switch to a kingston HyperX 3k last week, and went through a period of hang @ boot, where M6600 power on but not post screen, not boot into window.Or it boot right(get into window) but the lcd screen is off.
But seem like it come back normal again these two day. ( though I did upgrade to i7 and repaste in yesterday.)

I have tested almost a dozen different SSD's and find the following to be the most desirable of the current offerings:

    1. Samsung 830
    2. Crucial M4
    3. Intel 530
    4. Samsung PM830 (mSATA)
    5. Kingston HyperX
    6. Corsair ForceGT
    7. Vertex 4

The SandForce issues are all basically resolved so do not decide entirely on that factor.

The Corsair-Vengeance memory is what I am using now and I really like it. However, I see little/no difference between it and G.Skill or Samsung memory, which are my other favorites.

There are some great sales starting today at Newegg, TigerDirect, and Amazon so shop around.
