There's no chance of that, we will be lucky to have 16:10 remain at all, let alone the proper mid resolution they have carefully orchestrated the removal of over a year ago.

Sort of depends on actual display dimensions... if they generally hold the current E6400 footprint, then cramming more pixels (1600x900) into the same display area that now sports 1440x900 will not be an improvement... the current 1440x900 is already too small GUI-wise for some, imo. I don't think 1600x900 will fit more comfortably on a ~14.1" E6410!

I found this chart... notice the 16:10/8:5 and 16:9 video standards. If the E6400 at 16:10 offered 1440x900, I'll bet an E6410 at 16:9 will come in under that at 1366x768. If that's a step back, maybe Dell will keep 16:10. But like I suggested, maybe it's an improvement.

For reference, if you generally hold 14.1":
    E6400 14.1" 16:10 12 x 7.5" 1440x900
    E6410 14.1" 16:9 12.25 x 7" ?

Rebuttals must include the age of your eyes!

Its still not worth the huge amount of screen area and height you physically lose, for most, 1440x900 is more than sufficient for 14.1, the same vertical and more horizontal pixels in a screen 6mm wider and 15.5mm shorter is debatable as to how useful and desirable it is.

seb87, I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. I am way overdue for a replacement and thought about getting the first generation E-series but decided to hold off for what I hoped would be slightly better equipment. So I'm anxious too - I keep checking this thread. And I appreciate the great intel being shared about FCC filings and inventory parts.

BTW, when I say slightly better equipment, I'm thinking not just about newer and more recent chips but also, hopefully, a model that has minimized the throttling problem as well as the possibility for another display option. The laptop I'll be replacing is SXGA+ (x1050) and I'm really disappointed that the equivalent 16:10 choice is no longer an option. I'm holding out hope that Dell undoes that mistake. Even though that seems unlikely, I'd have been really annoyed if I bought last October when I was ready to only to discover that Dell offered what I wanted only a few months later. Worth waiting to find out. We'll see - and soon, I hope.

    Ken.
