Could it be because the XT3 looks mostly like a D630 only modernized and "tablety" XD

I swear that was my first impression upon seeing the Engadget pics

Same, I'm digging it quite a bit.

New Latitudes look like consumer laptops and not like business ones, they are ugly and thick IMO and probably rather heavy. The same goes to XT3, thick.
E6220 - fail! I bet X220 will beat it! I mean, its thick, you cant open the screen 180 degrees and its ugly, looks like consumer laptop.
Precisions looks good, but too thick for their design, otherwise better than new Latitudes.
I liked previous D620/630/430 etc and E64xx/E43xx/etc desnigs better!

The specs halfway down this page are in English.

    E6520: 1.11-1.35"h x 15.12"w x 10.16"d... 3/8" wider (15.6" 16:9), 1/4" deeper
    E6510: 1.10-1.30"h x 14.74"w x 9.97"d

    E6420: 1.06-1.28"h x 13.86"w x 9.49"d... 3/4" wider (14" 16:9), 1/8" deeper
    E6410: 1.00-1.22"h x 13.10"w x 9.38"d

The new builds are a touch bigger and probably stronger, more robust. Plus spill-resistant backlit keyboards.

16:9... oh well. USB3... yes, if you must have it. Ugly... no. Consumerish... maybe prosumerish, but not cheap and glossy. Round corners... sort of. Thick... thicker than previous builds by less than 1/16".

The lids look like they will open 180 degrees.

People keep saying that these "look" like cheap consumer oriented laptops. My take on it is that most cheap consumer oriented laptops try to look higher end, but the wealth of plastic parts on the cheaper machines is what makes them feel like a cheap computer.

I watched the youtube video that was linked earlier in the thread. It looks like a lot of effort has gone into making these very solid machines. All of the silver is not plastic - its metal alloy. The fact that they designed the lid to be light, very rigid and strong, and have the best antennae performance on the market might be why there is more bezel around the screen.

All models sharing 1 battery and 1 keyboard footprint is going to greatly simplify what we have to keep on hand in our parts locker.

Still, I am going to wait and see how this machine is with MY hands on. There is no way to judge a keyboard from a video or pictures. There is no way to tell what all of the surfaces on the machine are made of from the pictures.

The LaptopMag article also mentioned the 6420 w/4 cell weighs 4.56 lbs. Hard to say if this is more or less than the 6410, since that varied so much by configuration (and Dell misleads with "starting weight".)

Also, any more news about the NVIDIA NVS 4200M discrete graphics? I'm guessing this a business version of the 420m?

Your 410T is actually the same thickness and a pound heavier.

    Thinkpad 410T - Dimensions: 13.13 x 9.41 x 1.09-1.26” 5lbs 5.1oz
    E6420 - Dimensions: E6420: 13.86"w x 9.49"d x 1.06-1.28" 4.56lbs

Also - you do realize that there is no way you can know if the screen does or does not open to 180 degrees from pictures.

Look at the bulge behind the E6220 and tell me you can open it up - V13, V130 has exact the same design.

As for weight - see, I dont care how much previous generation weighs, I care about how much new ones weigh and they look big, bulky and heavy, which they are going to be anyway in real life, because unless its super slim and light like T410s/V13/V130 then there is no way to call them light IMO :D
Time will tell if new Latitude/Elitebook designs will grow on me, Id take form over functionality in laptops, so well see what early adopters say ;)
Design changes so dramatic between generation is what I like the least :D
It might grow on me if these laptops prove to be superior build quality and ergonomics wise.

Yeah, Ive corrected that one ;)

But to be honest, I like this futuristic-retro style that E6420/E6520 have with lid open with screen and keyboard styling, Im just not sure that I will like their thickness and bulkiness.
People always expect new things to be better in all ways, so thinner would definitely be better.

Then again, my T410 looks thinner and much better in real life than it does in pictures :D
