    I ordered DDR3 - 1333. 12 gig. I know I have 12 gig... how do I verify that it's 1333?

The E2E is AWESOME. This is my first glossy screen also and I love it. Color managing it is going to be a b!tch, however, I think.

This is exactly what I did. It works.... but it did not work for odma (document management with DocsOpen). Whatever.... Almost done with the dual boot config.

    Bokeh,

The webcam DRIVER is on the resource CD that came with the laptop. However, you need to select to view ALL regardless of 32 bit 64 bit etc. The Dell Webcam Central software that runs the camera, i.e., the actual app, is NOT on theat CD. If it is on its own entirely separate CD it is apparant that Dell forgot to include it - which does not surprise me. But guess what? Relentless searching has brought me to this link:

    http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...eid=R229400&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=331290

There are other links to Dell Webcame Software from Creative... but those downloads require you to first have the OEM version installed. This link IS the OEM version and in fact, its even better than what was shipped with the laptop. It has avatars and stuff. Download it, but then run the 'check update' function because there is an even more recent update available.

It looks like it has TRIM support now and I believe the samsung drives have garbage collection running in the background anyway so should be raid0 safe.

The reason we are so interested in the disk drive is SSD's are very new and these firmware updates are actually changing the perfomance and functionality of the drive. Basically if it didnt have TRIM it would slow down and wear out over time.

Its no big deal if you cant as mine ships in a couple of days but if you could run the benchmark below it would let others know what sort of performance they will get, I believe it has a standalone mode so wouldn't touch the registry etc.

Also when you say you tried to run your document app in a VM, did you mean the windows xp mode or a full vm like vmware (its free if you register). I can believe an app might barf in the emulation mode but in a full virtual client the coders must have been going out their way to be awkward.

Thanks! The newest Samsung drives have decent specs, and the firmware version indicates it has TRIM support in Windows 7, which means it will maintain itself and not lose performance over time.

Should make for a great performing system.

I normally would go out of my way to run that for you, but I am not installing anything I dont absolutely need right now or that will alter or affect my drives.

My first 36 hours of ownership have been a nightmare. It's not all Dell causing it. The horribly slow Dell driver download site has been an issue - - but its me that has been screwing around with a dual boot, VM XP mode, etc.

What really sucks is that Dell's download site is incomplete. There are missing apps and drivers that are needed for a full OEM reinstall. Granted, bonehead that I am did not realize some of these drivers were on the OEM disk. But Dell did not include some disks either (will call Monday). Hey guys... did you get a separate Roxio DVD creator disk? NOT the Cyberlink DVD player disk - but the Roxio DVD creator? What about the Web Cam Central - - NOT the driver itself - but the actual app? I received neither of these disks and you cant download the apps (well, I did finally find the web cam software - - see link above).

Other stuff is also not available for download, i.e., the "All day performance battery mode settings", and various other crap I see installed on my 64bit OEM install that I cant find anywhere. So, in the end I am not reformatting the 64 bit OEM. I did get 32 bit up and running with all the drivers I could find, but I am sure I may be missing a few that are up in 64 bit mode.

Anyway... with all these headaches, I am not risking any sort of drive analysis software benchmark software right now. Believe me - the drives are insanely fast.

As for the VM - - I tried Win XP mode - - not VMware. But that experiment is over and I actually dont mind dual boot cause that may come in useful over the next year until my server is brought up to speed at work - - and there may be other 64/32 issues out there where dual boot could proove useful.

    Adam
