    skypx,

That’s a sweet SSD but pricey, I guess its time to bite the bullet and just buy it.
I was going to order the OCZ vertex 120GB SSD.
Now I have a chose between the 120GB or the LE-200GB SSD

I know it is tempting to jump on the OCZ LE but many people question the long term stability of that controller they are using. They tried to mass market the drive and scrapped it because it was difficult to program and the price of the chip was too high.

So basically they selling their stock pile of controller chips off to avoid taking a loss and marketing it as a special edition.

Ordering stuff by dell is getting really annoying

now 2.5 years ago or something i ordered my Vostro 1700, That took AGES to arrive, canceled orders, reinserted and in the end a slightly wrong configuration arrived (but not to big of a problem and i got some extra's send by dell) This all was because of the screen... dell couldnt deliver the screen.

    But now....
First we ordered 4 Studio 17 Core i7 with dual drives and the 1920x1080 screen. It took again quite a while for any movement on it.
Then that order was canceled and reinserted under different name.
I got a déjà vu feeling... This happened to me before so i did email our account manager and asked him, is everything still ok.. Didnt here much back, then later the ordered finally arrived and what did we get..
1600x900 screens. So i contacted dell telling them that they could send over UPS again to get the 4 laptops back because that is not what we wanted.
Again this all was because of the screen, dell cant deliver the screens... (1920x1080)

Then for a quite nice price we changed it from 4 Studio 17 to 4 M6500 for a little bit more euro's but a good deal i have to say.
That order was placed 5 feb. nothing happend for 10 days. Then Canceled, new one added , also canceled, again another one added and now with the same number as before.. So i through oh oh i need to contact dell again..
And they assured me that it was the exact same order.
But when i got them on the phone the problem was presented and that is that or the white leds or the rgb leds (both 1920x1200) are on back order, They even told me that there arent any available at the moment in the dell factory..... So AGAIN its a screen problem
How can dell sell anything???? We just cant get the systems from Dell, why does dell has soooo many problems delivering screens..
I guess here in europa nobody can order M6500 with 1920x1200 (white or rgb) and expect that they will be there in 1 or 2 weeks. I think our first order was at 5 feb now it is 15 feb, We will not get those somewhere in March and i think it will be earlier the end of March then the beginning.
Dell told me that the only screen for me that they can deliver instantly is the Edge To Edge, but that one is so much more expensive, so thats not an option..

I feel your pain joco. I placed an order on 6 December, it should arrive on 22 February. Based on this experience, this will be the last laptop we get from dell.

But the problem is... there arent a lot of other options right now for us

For example where can i place this order outside of dell:

17" High res screen (1920x1200 is the best but we could live with 1920x1080)
Core i7 (but we could live with a fast Core i5)
Dual drive (we want a SSD and a HDD, SDD we place ourself, don't want Samsung!)
    Wifi N, Blue tooth
    Graphics card is not important
    4GB+ memory

and last but not least: 3 years on site next bus day! (this is important for us, laptops cant be out of the running for more then 1 day)

And i talk here about The Netherlands..

Our IT manager mentioned that i7 production was also limiting availability (although I haven't seen anything to support his claim) - so this may be another bottleneck in addition to providing sufficient RGBLEDs.

I totally agree we do not have a lot of options, and I'm certainly not recommending that anyone take the same path I did. For us the most important part of the whole process, is the level of service, and obliviously dell's level of service is utterly unacceptable. Over the years I've placed a lot of vendors on a "no purchase list", ASUS, Zipzoomlfy and plextor just to name a few. For example plextor no longer makes optical drives, but they still charge a premium for a rebadged LiteOn?

I would recommend pinpointing what you need vs. what you would like to have. I am currently using a latitude e6400 while waiting on the m6500. Is it slower? Yes, am I less productive? Certainly not.

If you are willing to accept their level of service then order the m6500, for us, this experience placed then at the top of our list. Good luck.
