    Hi johnhace,

    Read this from Microsoft, Physical Memory Limits: Windows XP and
    Wikipeda: Physical Address Extension

    If you Have Windows XP 64bit then your Limit, is the Limit of the M6500
    And this is 16GB...

    Add more RAM... :) Your System will love you for it. lol

    Clean out your Temporary Files:

    This will add a little pep to your system... :)
    Do this like once a month.

    First close all open programs…

    Press the Windows key + R then type: %temp%
    then press the ctlr key + A to select all, then press the shift key + delete key at the same time.
    You will see a popup window, press Yes.

    Close the window, that's it.

    I hope this helps...

    I was on the phone for over 2 hours with a technician earlier today, trying to figure out why i also get a ridiculous 5.9 WEI score and an overall lower than expected performance with my 4GB 1333Mhz RAM.
    I tested with both 2GB and 4(2x2)GB installed, and placed the RAM in all of the different memory slots just to see if that made any difference to the score. Unfortunately, this didn't help.

    My system with 4GB installed

    cpu: 7.1
    ram: 5.9
    gpx: 7.2
    game: 7.2
    HD: 7.0

    2GB

    cpu: 7.1
    ram: 5.5
    gpx: 6.0
    game: 6.0
    HD: 6.8

    Nothing else was changed in any way. The tech told me that my setup should get a 7+ RAM WEI rating, and if we can't somehow magically fix this tomorrow, they will replace the mem sticks on monday.

    Hello I'm on the verge of getting myself one of those Crucial C300 SSD's -it mentions that it supports SataIII interfaces. -does the M6500 have this interface ? - if not, will it be able to support it in the future (via minipcie maybe) ?

    Can you clarify- dual displays works fine, but only if you're using DVI from the E-port?

    Is anyone else out there using their M6500 in an E-port with 1 or 2 monitors, re/undocking daily (without rebooting, just suspending) and having serious issues?

    I'm having similar issues with my current D820 and a D-port and was looking forward to leaving these issues behind with a new box. :-/

    I've repeated this over and over throughout the thread because I was the first to experience this issue.

    It is NOT the memory sticks. If you want a score above the 5.X range then it requires more than 4GB. I tested several scenarios with the 2x2GB that I purchased from Dell with 2x4GB chips I purchased elsewhere and when the configuration was at 4GB (regardless of Memory manufacturer) the score was in the 5.X range. At 8 and 12GB configurations the score was in the 7.X.

    My guess is that the WEI factors in the potential of swapping memory to disk when memory levels are below a certain threshold which lower the score. It is not an indication of the performance of the memory.

    Other machines have reported higher scores with 4GB of memory but for some reason the m6500 doesn't.

    Read this article: http://www.techradar.com/news/softw.../get-a-perfect-7-9-windows-7-wei-score-555601

    "Essentially 5.9 is the highest you can score with less than 4GB of memory and from what we can evaluate, a stunning 8GB will be required to score over 7. And even so it's going to have to be fast memory to make the grade."

    It doesn't support SATA III and I seriously doubt it ever will. Personally, I'd get a Vertex LE over a C300, especially if you're limited to SATA II.

    @gradx

    I apppreciate the info and your experience with this issue. It still seems very strange to me that some systems will show a much higher score with the same hardware. Wouldn't this sort of defeat the purpose of using the WEI as a reliable source of expected performance from a given system if each machine is being judged relative to its maximum potential and not compared to other systems? As long as this is not a genuine indication of lacking memory performance i guess that's some comfort. I will be upgrading to 8GB soon anyway.

    ooooo - my M6500 shipped last night :) I ordered it on the 10th March and estimated delivery was 8th April. According to the carrier tracking it will be delivered into my grubby mitts on Tuesday!

    i7-820 Chip
    12GB RAM
    1920x1200 WLED Screen
    ATI 7740
    1x 500GB disk (ordering a SSD for main drive, but didn't want Dell's Samsung)

    Plus all the toys, fingerprint reader, contactless smart card, slim power supply, etc.

    Can't wait to test it all out! My previous laptops are:

    Dell Inspiron 8100
    ->
    Dell Inspiron 9100 (aka - "The Brick")
    ->
    Dell XPS 1710: Best laptop I have ever owned to this point, arguably should have never sold it as the next one (1730) was the worst laptop I have ever owned.
    ->
    Dell XPS 1730: Crap. Had SIX replacements before full refund. Overheating, shocking build quality, constant failures, actually burned myself on the metal DVI connector once.... )
    ->
    Dell Alienware M17x: Awsome kit and ran stone cold, but audio stutter was unacceptable. Shame, I really miss this laptop. Almost bought the R2 edition but wanted something a little smaller this time. Would highly recommend though as the R2 edition has solved the audio issues.
    ->
    MacbookPro 17" (I bought to trial it. didn't like MacOS and bootcamped Win7. Loved it..... but too expensive, underpowered and a bit quirky. Tough decision but with the forever delays on the revised hardware which now doesn't look likely until June I lost interest.
    ...
    ..
    Soon to have Precision M6500 - hoping I will like it!
