That would kind of obscure a chunk of the display. One of the reasons for finally replacing my old laptop was that areas of the display had failed altogether; it still works, it's just that I have to move windows around to see what lies "behind" the missing area. Having spent the best part of £2,000 on a replacement...

Glad to hear the machine has good cooling but how would I know what drive Dell supplies for the 128GB SSD? In their overview of them they show Samsung in the pictures but I have no idea if that is really what is supplied. Is there a preferred SSD from Dell? Unfortunately adding a drive after the fact is not an option since these will be company machines and they forbid mods.

Looking at the sky, I won't see the sun again today, and probably not for a few days knowing our weather... but it was set initially at 50% and then at 100% for me when I tested it earlier. I needed 100% to see much of anything because I went outdoors to get the sun.

I think its Samsung but I'm not sure, and how would they know if you changed the hard drive? The loaner I used for 4 months was a work laptop; I simply switched the hard drive, installed W7, and enjoyed it. After I got the M6500, I replaced my hard drive with the original, and returned it to the IT department. The only way to prevent this is to put some epoxy on the screws (which they won't do because of the warrantee). Remember, IT guys are not that bright! :D

My previous brightness level was 39% (for a target of 140 nits), my current brightness level is 36% (for a calibration target brightness of 120 nits). You can set this in the advanced power settings and it will update the BIOS setting as well.

Ok, thanks Keith. I'll report my results after testing.

    Edit....
A bit embarrassing, but where exactly is the brightness adjustment? I’m able to adjust it in power settings but it doesn’t show an exact percentage.

    In Win 7:

    Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings

    Then:

    Change Advanced Power Settings

    And in the relevant profile:

    Display\Display Brightness\Plugged in (%)

    Hope that helps,

    Paul.

Just click on the "change advanced power settings" in the screen that you showed the image of, and then scroll down to and expand the "display" section.

Or, another way to access the settings is described in Paul's post responding to your question.
