Well honestly I am cheap and don't want to speed my own money on parts for a work machine and they don't replace components unless they come from the manufacturer so I am kind of stuck with what Dell offers. Even if they aren't the best or most cost effective they should still be better than a standard drive. Thanks for the input though.

Yes I agree, I doubt you'll notice any difference with the Vertex or C300 vs. the samsung when used as the boot drive.

Not sure if this will be useful, but here's the x264 HD video encoding benchmark comparing the i7-720QM to the i7-920XM.

    Hi wlepse,

Just an FYI, you can buy, OCZ Vertex SSD's from Dell...

A OCZ 250GB SSD but it will cost you $939.99
And the OCZ 150GB SSD for $509.99

    I hope this helps,

I have the exact same issue on dell.co.uk. been trying for about a month to configure the machine I want (which I could have done then , if I'd been in the US). tried again yesterday and now the configurator is totally broken. by the time its sorted to the extent I can buy it in the config I want, I bet the HP8740w will be out , so I'll be comparing against that.

okay, I've had some time to play with it today and sadly the thought has crossed my mind to send it back :(

The touchpad driver makes the multitouch gestures and such just unusable and if I get more and more annoyed each time I go to use it and it isn't working.
On top of that the screen is crap. I've tried playing with basic calibration but its still the worst screen I've ever had on a laptop, really beginning to wish I ordered the RGB now. Which leads me onto my next point - I thought it was an Aluminium shell? Is that only on the RGBLED and the Covet but not on the WLED? I really wanted that as its going to be on the move and plastic cases just beg to be damaged in my opinion. I'm quite gutted it is not....
I'm also not happy with the build quality and the screen jiggles about even when closed. There is a 2-3mm gap on the front left where it closes and about a 1-2mm gap on the right. I had it in my backpack today and could actually hear the screen "slapping" against the chassis :S Reports from other people with the laptop suggest this is unique to my unit? please confirm.

This as well as Dell messing up the memory (they want to charge me more for it now.... gg tbh) means I might just send it back.

If I do then I will probably order another with the RGBLED screen (assuming that also adds in the Aluminium shell - although where is that on the order screen?? I could have sworn they were *all* Aluminium :( ) and the correct memory options. Hopefully it will be built a little better and the mouse pointer will work.

    Oh well :S

    Any thoughts?

Moogle....I believe they are all magnesium alloy which is good...I won't ever use a touchpad so can't comment, but the screen, if you don't like it send it back now and get what you want....sooner the better....however, I came to like the WLED 1440.900 on my m4400.....great all around screen....

Well, tried to order the USB 3.0 IIO board for my 6500 today and after 2.5 hours of phone time with the dell sales rep. I ended up with a return setup for the system I have now and the replacement system is one its why which is now a Covert, Prosupport added, accidental breakage added, USB 3.0 and a lower itrest rate of 3.25% fixed for the exact same price of the one I have now!

    What a change!

Hmmm, reverse psychology, the "Covet" system is the "covert" system because nobody would expect such a colorful character to have so much capability under the hood. (Sorry, couldn't resist.:) )

Sounds like Dell is taking good care of you.
