For those (like me) who ordered the M6400 in the last two weeks, you can return it once it's delivered and get a full refund. If you have the extra cash you can order the M6500 in advance before receiving the M6400.

Looking at the clock speeds on the Quadro FX3800m, it should be the fastest single card mobile solution out there. The current fastest single card is the GTX 280m with 585/950 clocks. The FX3800m has the same 128 cores, but is clocked at 675/1000. I also noticed that the power supply is up to 240 watts now.

Our Dell rep gave us plenty of head's up time, so I have been getting everything in place to order one for a few weeks. My order actually went in yesterday.

    Here is what I ordered:

    Video Card:
    nVidia Quadro FX 3800M, 1.0GB DDR3 Discrete for M6500 (320-1125)

    Hard Drive:
    160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive (342-0637)

Hello, I'm considering buying this machine and one thing I want to know is what difference (if any) would do buying 4Gb of 1600Mhz DDR3...in the manual that I've found at the dell site, it says that the machine accepts 1333Mhz and 1066Mhz memory.

Would this memory run at 1333Mhz instead of 1600? Do latencies change? i7 has the memory controller on chip, does that mean the FSB is not something I need to check to know the speed of memory...?

As you see, I'm a bit confused...I'm not much versed in memory tech, never understood what the 3 numbers are, etc.

    Thanks for your replies,
    Pablo

Well the GPU did go up by 25W TDP... that is one sick machine. Can't wait to see benches!

I don't think there are even any DDR3-1600 SO-DIMMs ATM. Even if there were, it would make no difference in any real life situation compared to even DDR2-800 (basically half speed) since it is never the bottleneck. Memory is all marketing - the speed, latency, etc. BTW i7s no longer use FSB but DMI.

i'm a bit concerned about the increase of TDP on the GPU... the 3700m already has heat issues when running any games...
my latest black screen basically shocked me in that it was too hot to touch in some areas...

tdp is not actual wattage its a theoretical with a bit of safety margin , either way its still a shocking leap in power usage

i hope they have upgraded the cooling appropriately , this will be a prime candidate for an imediate strip down and applying proper thermal paste to cpu and gpu

I dont think the alienware offer RGBLEDs.
Also, do they offer 4 RAM slots and 2 HDD slots ?

"if i was going for the 17" precision i'd rather get the 17" alienware. Had a chance to check out the current alienwares in singapore a few weeks ago, they seem as solid as any business class notebook"

No docking option on the Alienware notebooks is the dealbreaker for me.
