All the manual's say "Caution" :). So, having done hard drive upgrades in laptops before, I shouldn't technically have a problem with upgrading the drive in this laptop I wouldn't think. I was just more concerned with warranty-voiding issues doing such an upgrade. And why does Dell charge $230 for a 250GB hard drive, anyway??

    Thanks.

Cause they can, I suppose. Ordered my Covet with the base drive and ram options because they were still significantly more expensive than what I could replace them with even after the huge discount was applied.

Makes sense....thinking of doing the same.

Am I missing a hug discount somewhere :)?

Depends on your business relationship with your Dell representative. Our company has EPP access, but since the 6500 wasn't available from that list, I contacted ours directly and worked things out.

The deal I got will probably get her a Christmas card every year for the foreseeable future.

We have EPP access as well but obviously the M6500 is not on that list. I'll have to call Dell EPP sales and see what they can do.

Just wanted to say big thank you again - I am certain this has fixed the problem. I haven't had a freeze in 2 days since I did this! Never thought I'd be that happy about a laptop just working :)

Good advice for anyone else experiencing random freezing with their M6500!

This is slightly out of topic, but also slightly relevant. I called Dell's EPP sales inquiring if any of the small business systems were available for EPP purchases. The guy who answered was incredulous that I would even consider a small business system. He said that small business systems weren't that good because they were built to be sold in bulk, and are really only better if you're really rough on the laptop, i.e., they are only for clumsy people, I guess. Otherwise, he could get me a consumer-grade laptop with "incredibly more significant specs" than any small business system they sold.

I politely thanked him and hung up. Thought I'd just share that...you guys now know you got ripped off :).

    Interesting "pitch".

Really looking forward to being disappointed in a couple of weeks with my subpar machine.

Thanks, I just downloaded and installed the Bluetooth driver from http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...temID=PREC_M6500&os=W764&osl=en&catid=&impid= and it works fine now. I thought Windows 7 would at least have come with a default driver. Funny thing is that Device Manager showed all my devices to be working well without indicating the absence of the Bluetooth card driver.

I just tried the Precision ON button out of curiosity and it only works if you have purchased and installed Microsoft Outlook. Just don't forget to install the reader software (which basically allows you to read your mail in Outlook by pressing the Precision On Button without booting into Windows. Outlook also has a web browsing feature so you can browse the net too) for the "Precision On" button from: http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...temID=PREC_M6500&os=W764&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Anyway, since I don't have Outlook and don't intend to buy it, I had to install the Precision On reader software. I wonder why they don't make the button more useful for people who don't have Outlook.

p/s: Track stick, track stick buttons are just used as an alternative to the touchpad and its buttons - not very useful if you ask me but still nice to have just in case you don't want to wear your touchpad down too much.
