Were you running Windows XP, or Windows 7? I was running Windows XP and after I removed the IDT driver that came pre-installed, XP installed an older IDT driver that had the same popping issue. There is a newer IDT driver available, but it's only for Windows 7. I'm wondering if anyone was able to resolve the popping issue when running Windows XP.

Windows 7.....I'm using the Win 7 driver right now....I had to delete the IDT driver through device manager first, then reboot.

I first enabled USB 3 in the BIOS, then booted up and Win 7 found it and installed. I NEVER installed that driver from the DELL site. Did you? If so, you'll need to make sure it's uninstalled (and removed from computer) through device manager....if you have done this, it makes no sense unless that driver is resurrecting itself. Dell shouldn't have those drivers on the site IMO.

BTW, I'm using a 'cleaned up' factory Win 7 install but that should make any difference whatsoever unless you've missed something (I'm assuming you did a clean install).

Keep working on it and post back...I've proved to you it should work. Keep at it! :)

I noticed this too after I reassembled my keyboard after checking for the RAM slots underneath it. The solution is very easy. On the back side of the keyboard you'll find some protruding screws that fit exactly into holes in the plastic cover that cover the boards.
Make sure to put your keyboard absolutely flat on the plastic cover before sliding it into the connector. Otherwise these screws will not match the holes. Do not hold it at a flat angle like you'd do with RAM modules.

The technican who replaced my main board did the same mistake, but because I sat next to him during the operation I could give him this hint. He said he disassembled an M6500 three times before, but I can't believe that they still make such obvious and easy to avoid mistakes.

I was, then I got myself an eSATA external disk, and it worked intermittently giving timeout errors and disconnecting. Reverting to the Microsoft driver fixed the problem.

Didn't noticed a reduction in performance, but I didn't do a benchmark so it is all subjective. The external drive works flawlessly tough. :)

Tried it, but it didn't make a performance difference compared to the Microsoft Win7 drivers. So I went back to msahci.

    Wow.

So my initial delivery data for 5/13 has turned into 4/30 as of P.M. last night.
And as of this morning, the FedEx tracking number is saying delivery expected on the 29th.

My covet may have created a singularity or something.

At any rate, I was expecting to have more time to pick up a couple of ram kits, maybe an ssd, etc. The egg has been woefully understocked over the past couple of weeks, so the mushkin 2x4GB 1333 kits have been out of stock for some time. Sucks, because the price is _very_ right, and I've had good experiences with them in the past.

Anyone have any experience with gskill, Good or bad? The interesting thing about their offerings on newegg is that there are 2 kits, rated the same speed, just with slight variations in the model number that looks to be bitrate related (10600 vs. 10666). Both the same price, and both almost a full $100 cheaper than the next in stock alternative.
